  • Rural holiday park with lakeside pitches in Herefordshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to Berrington Hall, and 25 minutes to Ludlow
  • Nine-hole golf course, fishing and crown bowling; restaurant and bar
Set in 80 acres of mature parkland by the side of its namesake lake, Herefordshire’s Pearl Lake Leisure Park is five minutes’ drive from Powys, gateway to mid-Wales, while Shropshire’s historic town of Ludlow is 25 minutes by car. This lovely holiday park is just the spot for anyone wanting relaxation in spades, but also some gentle pastimes like fishing and crown bowling – as well as a challenging nine-hole golf course – which are luckily all available on site. Kids don’t miss out either, with a play area, five-a-side football pitch and a large recreation field. Other fun happenings include zipwires and climbing frames and of course, there are lots of woodland areas to explore while playing hide and seek among the trees. And life couldn’t be easier on site. Fill up on goodies for the barbecue at shops in Shobdon, only five minutes’ walk away. Don’t fancy cooking? Simply get yourself down to the Lakeside Bar and Bistro for a quiet drink on the sun-trap terrace, Sunday lunch or a game of pool. Alongside a B road, there will be some road noise on all pitches, but Pearl Lake Leisure Park is very much certain the quality facilities on offer will make up for it.

Liked: Wonderful walks and a great place for dogs! Seems very child friendly with lots to do. Staff were amazing and really friendly. Looked like a good bar and bistro but we were self sufficient during our stay. The lake walk was brilliant and all the residents liked to stop and chat. Well looked after shower and toilets. Large field where dogs can run free. Even had free TV cable which was great to use!

Disliked: Hard standing was a little narrow, but the grass area made up for this - but wonder what this would be like in wetter weather. Would not stop us from going again though!

We are pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay with us at Pearl Lake over New Year. All of our touring pitches here at Pearl Lake are Hard Standing and Fully Serviced Pitches - all equipped with electric, water, TV and grey waste disposal.

We are also pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Lakeside Bar and Bistro whilst you were on site! We will definitely pass your feedback along.

We hope to welcome you back to park in the near future.

We are pleased to hear that you found our site to be friendly - our owners, guests and the team are all incredibly welcoming!

However, we are disappointed to hear that you disliked that we do not have our own shop on site. We love supporting our local community, and with the village shop being less than a 10 minute walk from us (or five minute drive!) we want to support them as best as we possibly can.

We hope that despite this that we see you again in the near future.

Liked: The site on a whole is lovely, with very enjoyable walks around the lake and into the woods. The facilities were spotlessly clean. We had a lovely meal at the Bateman Arms pub down the road. I think this site is great if you come to play golf. But the groups other sites, Arrow Bank and Rockbridge, are much more peaceful.

Disliked: The touring area feels like an afterthought, with no views and all the noise of the road, which was very loud because of tractors going up and down from early morning to late evening. It would be better if this area was moved into the main park, so tourers don't feel like the poor relation.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback here on Pitch Up, we greatly appreciate it.

Firstly, we are pleased to hear that you found our site as a whole to be "lovely" with lots of walks around the area. Our housekeeping team work tirelessly to make sure that our facilities block is as spotless as possible.

However, we are disappointed to hear that Pearl Lake was not the site for you. Our touring area is only 15 pitches, which we feel is small and intimate. We do understand your feedback in regards to the road noise - we are surrounded by Apple Tree fields and potato fields, both supplying big name brands such as Bulmers Cider and Tyrells Crisps.

We hope that you find the perfect site for you in the near future.

Would stay here again in a static caravan but not touring.

Liked: The caravan park grounds are lovely to walk around with lots to do on site. All the staff and caravan owners were very friendly, you can tell there is a lovely community on there. The dog friendly bistro was reasonably priced and the food was good.

Disliked: The touring area is quite small and not very private from the other guests there, you feel too close to each other which wasn't good when we had really noisy neighbours who also let their dogs loose off lead around our pitch. The road noise is quite loud, it's used by tractors which are on the roads early and late into the night.

Local attractions

What to do first? Well, if you’re travelling with kids, they’ll probably love you forever if you let them spend time observing the owls or meeting pygmy goats and cute Valais Blacknose sheep (or feeding their lambs in spring) at the Small Breeds Farm Park (20 minutes’ drive). If science is more their thing, join a guided tour of the working observatory at The Spaceguard Centre (25 minutes) to learn about asteroids and comets. To explore a woodland rich in wildlife, pack a picnic and head out on the trails in Mortimer Forest (20 minutes). There’s a walk for all levels of abilities and you might spot deer or birds of prey as you enjoy views over Shropshire and Herefordshire into Wales. For a ramble combined with a history lesson, follow the path up to the Iron Age earthworks at Croft Ambrey Hillfort (10 minutes). Local National Trust treasures include Croft Castle and Parkland (10 minutes), with an impressive 11th-century mansion, gardens and a vineyard to have a root around, or period furniture and elaborate costumes to admire at graceful Georgian-era Berrington Hall (20 minutes). Ludlow (25 minutes) also warrants a visit for its spectacular half-timbered buildings, medieval castle and lively restaurant scene.
