  • Small glamping site within a Gloucestershire campsite
  • Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat both 15 minutes' drive away
  • Spacious bell tents for four; access to bar, café and fishing lake
Gloucestershire glamping with good views? Take a look at Broadstone Retreat, a small site within the Wye Valley National Landscape and just on the border of England and Wales. The spacious bell tents here have been set up specifically to provide a gorgeous retreat for families or small groups – each one is decorated on the theme of an animal that’s native to the area, and fully kitted out with all the furniture you’ll need for a comfy stay. Each tent has a kingsize bed (with all bedding provided), a woodburning stove to keep things cosy, and a clothing rail to hang all your kit up nicely. Each tent has a kettle with complimentary tea and coffee to get your morning off to a good start with a cuppa. You’ll also have an individual firepit and barbecue (with logs provided), and access to a kitchen area with microwave, fridge-freezer, crockery and a washing-up area. Any meals you knock up can be served at your indoor or outdoor seating. While the glamping retreat is small and self contained, with its own toilets and showers, it’s part of a bigger campsite with extra facilities that you’re welcome to use – these include a fishing lake, a bar and a café that serves breakfasts and has a pizza menu for the evenings. Being within the Wye Valley, you’ll be able to spend days walking, cycling, horse riding or canoeing among lovely scenery, and there are plenty of interesting places nearby to visit, including Tintern Abbey and Goodrich Castle.

The Pheasant bell tent

Liked: Lovely, clean, cosy and organised site. Friendly welcome and beautiful location. Great Lakes with fishing. Fab location. Pizza was amazing.

Disliked: Would have preferred the second bed to be a proper bed rather than futon even if we needed to pay extra for it.

The Fox bell tent

Liked: Everything!
Quiet! Friendly.
The bell tent was a good size, beautifully made up and clean.
Bedding smelt lovely.
Log burner inside the tent and outside BBQ and log burner, all logs supplied.
Beautiful toilets and showers, well looked after.
Big fridge freezer really useful.
Lots of solar lights outside round each tent so a torch was not needed to go to the bathroom at night.
Small bar and pizzas available on site.

Disliked: Nothing!

The Bumblebee bell tent

Liked: The host was really great, he informed us of what was where.l and then left us to it. The tent itself was beautifully set out, we stayed in Bumble bee, which was very cute with bee furnishings. Very clean and comfortable and all the home comforts you could need were well thought through and provided. A family friendly site too which was great for us. A great value night in a beautiful setting.

Disliked: The only minor thing I can think of was that the showers went cold when someone flushed or used a tap. This was only brief and I didn't mind but might be cold in the winter. Could probably be avoided if you checked with other guest too about water use while showering. Not a dislike but a to be aware of - there is a lake near the tents so very small children need to be watched closely, but they do anywhere really.

The Hare bell tent

Liked: The beauty of the surrounding forest.
The furniture inside the bell tent, and the decor.
The friendly and helpful host, Richard.
Easy to locate
Lovely shower room and kitchen
The lake, geese, and chickens.

Disliked: Wanted an experience that was a bit different…the only thing that let it down was that one of the families in another tent invited lots of people around for a noisy party on our last night. They did not seem to know when to lower the noise at an appropriate time, and it tarnished our evening

The Hare bell tent

Liked: We had the best stay glamping at Broadstone retreat!

The host was very welcoming from the beginning and showed us to our tent. We were able to park the car close to the tents which was handy.

We were also lucky enough to have the glamping retreat to ourselves as we went mid week!

Our tent was super cosy with amazing decor. I was worried I’d be cold but the wood burner inside the tent meant we were toasty all night. We used it to boil the kettle and have a cup of tea in bed :)

Another huge plus was the kitchen/ bathroom area- all brand new and very clean. We’d been on one of the many nearby bike trails in the day so appreciated a nice hot shower! Also good to note that there was an outdoor hose to clean the bikes.

We’d not brought food with us so went down past the lakes to grab a homemade pizza and a pint on tap from the bar. All so yummy!

Honestly couldn’t fault this place, it’s a little gem. We will be back for sure- thank you!
