  • Family-friendly site close to top Peak District attractions
  • A 20-minute drive from Buxton, Chatsworth House and Dovedale
  • Directly opposite the Tissington Trail; close to foodie pubs and shops
Off to Derbyshire for trips to Buxton, Bakewell and beyond? The Bull i' th' Thorn is located just off the A515, making it a doddle to zip from one end of the Peaks to the other and be back in time for tea. This peaceful park is set deep in the Peak District and comes with the sweeping views to prove it. Muddy boots are welcome at this outdoorsy spot – handy indeed given that the car-free Tissington Trail is opposite the site. After days packed with outdoor exploring, you’ll likely appreciate The Bull i' th' Thorn's hot showers (a separate shower room is available for families travelling with young kids). There are also three water points, an outdoor washing-up area for self-catering sorts and unisex toilets and showers. Although this is a self-check-in site, a member of staff cleans the facilities daily. The site's sister pub is a couple of minutes' drive away or a five- to 10-minute walk away via a public footpath. It's open every day; food is served from 12pm to 9pm, and breakfast is served from 8.30am to 11am on weekend mornings. The site is also a few minutes’ stroll from Tagg Lane Dairy, a family-run gelateria that uses raw milk straight from their pampered Jersey dairy herd.

Primitive grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked It's a small, quiet campsite with great views and really well looked after all pitches. The toilets and showers were wonderfully clean! Pub at sister campsite was an easy 10ish mins stroll across a field and the food was brilliant! Loved the self check in, it was so easy. We got an email with the pitch number beforehand, so we just roll up when we arrive!

Disliked The road could be a bit speedy, but that's only.a.bother if you're going to the pub, it doesn't affect the campsite at all so just a heads-up for walkers!

Primitive grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked IMPRESSED BY VERY CLEAN TOILETS AND SHOWERS. EVEN SUPPLYING HAND TOWELS AND TOILET PAPER TOO. KEPT WELL.
A LOVLEY SIZED SITE. NOT TOO BIG.
ENOUGH SINKS AND TAPS ON SITE. NEAR SOME BEAUTIFUL WALKS AND SCENERY IS FAB.

Disliked SHAME THE ON SITE PUB IS NOW CLOSED BUT THIS CANNOT BE HELPED. IT DOES AFFECT THE SITE. THERE ARE PLACES TO GO NEARBY,WALKING OR IN CAR.

Powered grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked Lovely large pitches well spaced out, fantastic views of the Derbyshire countryside. Dog walkers paradise, walks everywhere ( try Tissington trail). The manager was on site( camping) so got a few problems sorted instantly.

Disliked Managed , but not enough toilet and showers if site full. Grass cut just before we arrived and just left, got everywhere . Loud banging music played all day until late into night.
Shame the pub is closed.

Local attractions

This countrified site is close to beauty spots like Dovedale (20 minutes' drive), where you can stroll along the water's edge and picnic by the far-farmed stepping stones. For a more adventurous (and hillier) trek on foot, pick up the nearby Limestone Way in Monyash (five minutes). Looking for cycle hire? Head to Parsley Hay (five minutes) to hire bikes (including accessible models) and tandems. This is where the High Peak and Tissington trails meet (both run along flat former railway lines, so there's little chance you'll run out of puff). Chatsworth House (20 minutes) has grand gardens and elegant interiors to admire (there's also a guinea pig village that's likely to revive any tiddlers suffering from museum fatigue). Buxton (15 minutes) is a spa town of similarly posh repute and is full of boutique shops, ornate terraces and cultural sites (it also plays host to the Buxton Festival throughout the month of July). It's also home to two popular golf courses (the Cavendish Golf Club for hot shots and Peak Practice Golf for newbies).
