  • Pop-up wild camping in Derbyshire’s lovely Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute walk into Castleton; Chatsworth House half an hour’s drive
  • Grass pitches with pubs and cafés nearby, plus direct access to walks
Looking for a peaceful rural stay amid spectacular Peak District countryside views? You could have hit the jackpot at Treaks Pringle Camping, a pop-up site with a true wild-camping vibe on the very outskirts of Castleton, one of the prettiest and most popular villages in the national park. This peaceful site is surrounded by fields and has gorgeous views whichever way you turn. From the camping fields, you can spot dramatic Winnats Pass, and there are myriad attractions like the Blue John Cavern (10 minutes’ drive) and Peveril Castle (five minutes) close by. Any long-distance walkers looking for an overnight stop? Treaks Pringle Camping is close to Edale (10 minutes) and the start of the Pennine Way. Basic facilities on site stretch to a washing-up area and a toilet block, so you’ll need to bring everything with you, including torches for finding your way around after dark. Don’t forget the barbecue if you fancy cooking alfresco, but there are also pubs and cafés aplenty in Castleton. The main road through Castleton is a 10-minute walk away so you don’t need to bother with the car. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, but please keep them on leads at all times – and do note that the pitches here are on a slight slope.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (sloping)

Liked Location was perfect, easy to walk straight onto the trails for mam tor and ridges, facilities were good, plenty of space and freedom to pitch where you want, views were amazing, toilets were regularly cleaned

Disliked Only thing: sometimes you were waiting in a queue for the toilets or washing up as there was one washing up sink and two female toilets compared to the amount of people there. This couldn't be helped and it didn't negatively impact our stay, just remember to plan your toilet breaks or keep an eye out

Primitive grass campervan campsite (sloping)

Liked We had a great time at this site over the Bank Holiday weekend. The lady running the site was so lovely and was always happy to help, she even let us book in for an extra night last minute as we enjoyed it so much. And despite it being full on the Saturday, there was plenty of space around us and we didn't feel too close to anyone.

Toilets on site were clean and new, honesty snack box which was a great touch, Ice Cream van appeared on the Saturday evening, as well as their own goats in a pen on site which were amazing (and hilarious).

Really lovely back to basics campsite, with more than enough nice touches to make it a perfect place to stay.

10 minute walk to the lovely Castleton, beautiful views surrounding you and the most amazing walks right on the doorstep.

Disliked The site is advertised as sloping and it definitely is if you want to be out of the way nearer the top. Really didn't bother us at all but it's something to mention.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (sloping)

Liked Super location, terrific views, close to lots of walks, within easy reach of Castleton for eating/drinking. Good price, easy to find, lots of space, sloping site but not enough to make sleeping in tent uncomfortable.

Disliked Toilets could be better (not enough for number of pitches)
