  • Pop-up wild camping in Derbyshire’s lovely Peak District National Park
  • A 10-minute walk to Castleton; Chatsworth House half an hour’s drive
  • Grass pitches with pubs and cafés nearby, plus direct access to walks
Looking for a peaceful rural stay amid spectacular Peak District countryside views? You could have hit the jackpot at Treaks Pringle Camping, a pop-up site with a true wild-camping vibe on the very outskirts of Castleton, one of the prettiest and most popular villages in the national park. This peaceful site is surrounded by fields and has gorgeous views whichever way you turn. From the camping fields, you can spot dramatic Winnats Pass, and there are myriad attractions like the Blue John Cavern (10 minutes’ drive) and Peveril Castle (five minutes) close by. Any long-distance walkers looking for an overnight stop? Treaks Pringle Camping is close to Edale (10 minutes) and the start of the Pennine Way. Basic facilities on site stretch to a washing-up area and a toilet block, so you’ll need to bring everything with you, including torches for finding your way around after dark. Don’t forget the barbecue if you fancy cooking alfresco, but there are also pubs and cafés aplenty in Castleton – the village's main road is a 10-minute walk away so you don’t need to bother with the car. Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, but please keep them on leads at all times – and do note that the pitches here are on a slight slope.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (sloping)

Liked: Location is perfect. I was able to get to some really great hiking spots from the site, without worrying about parking or transport.
Super friendly team.

Disliked: It felt a bit expensive given how basic the facilities were - no showers and only a couple of toilets.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (sloping)

Liked: Easy check in - text notification on the day
Nice and clean facilities
Option to hire a fire with wood
Big campsite with plenty of room

Disliked: Unsure at first where the campsite was but as it was the only field with tents in we assumed it was the right one
On a slight slope so make sure you put your tent the right way!

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (sloping)

Liked: Site and Facilities clean, great views also and close to castleton if you want to walk in.

Disliked: Ground was too sloped which isn’t very good if you’re staying in a tent as it meant an awful nights sleep- a motorhome would probably be fine.
