What customers say

Peaceful, remote site w/ great views & level pitches. Clean restrooms & friendly owner highlighted. Excellent Peak District base, convenient pub walks. Minor issues: dim lights, high water tap, walk distance accuracy, sheep droppings, no local sidewalks.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked I stayed at Damside Campsite recently and had such a great experience. The location is absolutely beautiful – right in the Peak District with nice views and loads of great walks nearby. The facilities were clean, well-kept, and everything you’d want from a campsite.

I’d definitely recommend Damside Campsite to anyone looking for a peaceful spot in the Peaks. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Primitive grass RV campsite

Liked Good view out to the hills, flushing toilets. Loved the old stone fences. Buxton not far away and worth a visit and plenty of walks to do.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful location. Pitches were all pretty flat. Toilet facilities were as described, kept clean and well stocked. Very friendly owners. I would return if in the area again.

Disliked A couple of disrespectful groups late at night made it difficult to sleep. However appreciate this is not the owners’ fault.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Great views across the countryside. The toilets were new and cleaned frequently.

Disliked Only 2 toilets on the bank holiday wasn't quite enough. Not a fault of the campsite but it attracted quite noisey campers on a bank holiday weekend including singing etc until 2am.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Beautiful remote setting on a level site with gorgeous little walks nearby. Hosts were very responsive and friendly. Great price, too.

Disliked Bit smelly beside the farm, and the toilet lights weren’t working during our stay (just one night)

Local attractions

Highlights in the Peak District include the Peak Cavern (15 minutes’ drive), a network of underground chambers that also hosts live music concerts; and the Mam Tor mountain, a not-too-challenging hike that rewards with far-reaching views of the surrounding hills. The spa town of Buxton (15 minutes) spreads around the Buxton Visitor Centre & The Buxton Crescent Experience, part of an elegant Georgian sweep and the place where you can learn more about the local health-giving waters. Buxton Opera House sits on the edge of the Pavilion Gardens, crossed by the River Wye – and by a miniature railway. Chatsworth House (half an hour) is well worth a visit, whether you want to relax along the banks of the River Derwent with a picnic, or explore the 105-acre garden, with its statuary and waterworks. The impressive Painted Hall, in the elegant 18th-century mansion, is covered in dramatic and vibrant frescoes.
