  • Small site with Chrome Hill views in the Peak District National Park
  • Alton Towers and Chatsworth House both 35 minutes’ drive
  • Gravel touring pitches with showers; tearooms 25 minutes’ walk
Opened in 2024, Chrome Hill is a tiny touring park with very big views over the Peak District National Park – and it is also one of the highest campsites in the UK. Dedicated to use by campervans and small motorhomes, it has a modern toilet/shower block, mains water and an elsan point. This small site offers just a few gravel pitches, and each has a grassed area where a porch awning or pup tent can be put up (no charge) – and each, of course, has spectacular views over the hills and dales of the Peak District to the distinctive form of Chrome Hill (aka the Dragon’s Back), around half an hour’s amble away across the fields. Dogs are welcome, and there’s a secure exercise area dedicated just to them, as well as space for you to picnic and kick a ball around with the kids. You’ll never be short of walks in gorgeous countryside straight from the pitches, and can stroll also down to the tearooms in the pretty local hamlet of Hollinsclough in around 25 minutes. Buxton (15 minutes’ drive) is the nearest spot for topping up on groceries at the supermarket, browsing a choice of restaurants and pubs and contemplating at night at the theatre.

Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked We stayed at Chrome Hill for two nights, and it was the most peaceful site we have ever stayed at.
Darren popped by to check and clean the facilities and to ensure we were OK, he also suggested local places to eat.
Darren and Diane are great hosts and I hope that anyone that visits, respects the site and in turn respects Darren and Diane.
I've already recommend the site to some friends. Great little site.

From the manager: Thank you for a wonderful review,we try our best to make sure guests have a welcoming and pleasant stay.
Thank you for recommending us and we look forward to you returning in the future.

Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked Fantastic, quiet site with only 4 pitches, and amazing views and walks. Sat outside during the heatwave until about 11pm and there aren't many places better to watch the sun go down.

Spotless toilets and showers. Absolutely perfect to get away from it all and relax.
Mobile signal was patchy, but you don't come to a beautiful place like this to spend it on your phone.

Loong forward to coming back

Disliked Nothing

From the manager: We love to hear guests have had a relaxing time and so happy you enjoyed your stay, thank you for respecting the facilities and leaving your pitch area so clean.
your more than welcome to return anytime.
Best wishes d&d 🙂🙂

Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked A hidden gem. 4 small pitches in the middle of nowhere. What's not to like! An incredible view from bed with a brew after a long hike. Slept perfectly, felt very safe. Windy but you are in the peak district, this is to be expected. Toilet and shower cubicle has more than ample space, this was clean and smelt fresh. The little extras in the toilet (nappy sacks and first aid kit) is a really thoughtful touch. The water point also has a hose pipe which is incredibly helpful. We must have been in bed when the owner did their rounds but we did get a message to say we could stay on site for the day if we wished which was lovely. A really great micro site for keen walkers. Would have been happy to take our children here, there is a small fenced off area for them to play.

As you reach the destination, don't follow satnav down narrow track to farmhouse, there is a green sign at the park up just a little further.

Disliked Nothing at all.

From the manager: Thank you for such a amazing review,we try our best to ensure everyone has a great stay but unfortunately we missed you this time.
Were so happy you enjoyed your stay and hopefully we will see you on your next visit.
Thank you ☺️

Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite

Liked Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chrome Hill.
The camp site was clean and well maintained.
The location was perfect for visiting the Peak District with just a short drive to visit popular destinations.
The view was spectacular and it was peaceful and quiet.

Disliked There was nothing to dislike about this campsite but would recommend bringing a wind break, it’s very open.

From the manager: thank you Darrell/partner for such a great review we're happy you liked the site and found everthing satisfactory, you will have noticed I've planted conifer trees around the whole perimeter so hopefully won't be to long before we have a permanent wind break... your welcome to return anytime...😊
