  • Luxury bell tents with bedding, kitchenware, barbecue and chiminea
Not looking to lift a finger on your next break? Sit back and chill out in the Chilterns at Hertfordshire's Hill Farm Glamping, a swish site that aims to do all the hard work for you. Case in point? The luxury five-metre bell tents here are designed to take the hassle out of holidays by including all the bits and bobs you need. They’ve got cosy double beds with memory foam mattresses and extra blankets, plus camp beds and bunks can be added for group or family trips. Each tent also contains essential kitchenware (think a kettle, saucepan, frying pan, kitchen utensils, wooden spoon, barbecue tongs, knife, glasses, bottle opener, mugs, plates, bowls, cutlery, tea towels and cloths). A coolbox with ice packs is also supplied to keep your food (and, most importantly, drinks) chilled, and there’s a barbecue with coals for making meals to eat at the picnic table. Chuck some of the provided wood on the chiminea for relaxed nights toasting the complimentary marshmallows on the fire. The owners really have thought of everything here: other extras include towels, a torch for nighttime loo trips, a solar power pack for charging your devices, and a wireless speaker, plus the tent’s decorated with fairy lights, lanterns, a chandelier, bunting and other homely add-ons. The location’s lush as well – this park is at the top of Aston Hill with access to Wendover Woods (20 minutes' walk away) at its rear for walks, bike trails, bird watching and den building. There’s also a kids’ park and a lovely café.

Bothy hut 1 bedroom cabin

Liked: Size of site and facilities. Lovely secluded location by some beautiful woods. Close to nearby towns and a beautiful drive to get to. We were in the Bothy which was very comfortable and well catered for. Especially nice to have our own fridge and the ambient lights were perfect.

Ready tent

Liked: Just returned from an excellent 3 night stay in one of the pre-pitched tents.

We were travelling with our 2 children aged 5 & 8 and the pre-pitched tent and other facilities meant that we could have a stress-free introduction to camping as a family.

The extra little touches like the large field with a football and a goal, drinking water tap near the tent and the kettle in the washing up area really helped make this a great stay.

We spent a lot of time as a family in Wendover Woods walking, running and cycling around the waymarked trails (including the Gruffalo play trail for the kids), being able to walk there and not having to pay the high charges for parking meant that we visited every day. The Café there is also excellent.

We also made the short drive to Whipsnade Zoo which was excellent and well worth the drive

Local attractions

While this site’s a top-notch choice for a little R&R just an hour’s drive from central London, it’s also fab for getting active. Adventure above the treetops in Go Ape Wendover Woods (15 minutes’ walk) or hurtle down the hills of Aston Hill Bike Park (a few minutes away on foot). More activities are to be had in Green Park (five minutes' drive), a centre in mature woodland organising archery, high ropes courses and climbing near Aston Clinton. Calmer pursuits are also a short stroll away – mosey over to Chiltern Forest Golf Club (a couple of minutes' drive) for a go on the green or drive into Wendover (10 minutes) to pootle around the pubs, museum, gallery, and antique and craft shops.
