How often do you get to set up camp right by an attractive marina, within sight of elegant boats and tall masts? Well, at Jachthaven Waterkant, you can do exactly that. Part of a yacht club, this spacious site occupies a green spot on the western bank of the Dintel, just where the river meets the waters of the Volkerak. Guests can take advantage of all the marina facilities, which include a modern and well-maintained toilet block with showers, and a launderette (with dryers, too). There are also good facilities for disabled guests, with a wheelchair-accessible toilet. After dark, all the paths are well lit, so you can walk along the pontoons with confidence. A playground with inflatable and climbing structures should keep the kids busy while you get the barbecue (provided) going; if they prefer splashier attractions, there is a waterslide, or they can explore the marina on a paddleboard. Speaking of barbecues (and food), there’s a supermarket in the North Brabant village of Dinteloord, about five minutes’ drive away. It doesn’t take much longer than that to cycle into the village (you can hire a bike on site, if you don’t have your own), and about 25 minutes on foot (the peaceful Postbaan route is also excellent for a dog walk). Once in the village, you can reward your active efforts with a pitstop in a café or a pizzeria; the nearest restaurant, though, is right on site: a brasserie with a large decked waterfront area.

Liked Lovely peaceful and scenic setting, great facilities. Good location for countryside cycling, Fort Sabina nearby. Great price per say too.

Disliked Couldn't get in with the code on arrival, but to be fair sending a Whatsapp message, it was quickly sorted out.

Liked On arrival we were greeted and shown to our pitch and offered a choice of what was available. All pitches are direct waterfront. Service was absolutely first class, because our cable connection was not the same as the European one this was all sorted out for us with no problem.
You could use their bikes free of charge, which we took advantage of and rode into Dinteloord, on a couple of occasions.
The showers and toilets were the cleanest we have ever seen as was the chemical toilet waste area.
WIFI was excellent.
The restaurant on site is very good.

Disliked Nothing about the site itself, but it is a very quiet area and the local village just lacked a choice of restaurants and cafes.
Although there is a small supermarket available to buy produce.

Liked De rust aan en van het water

Disliked De aankomst en ontvangst. Bij aankomst moet je een telefoonnummer bellen, deze werd niet opgenomen. Er is geen receptie dus sta je voor een dichte poort.
Uiteindelijk iemand van het restaurant ons binnen gelaten. Wij wisten niet waar we moesten staan dus maar ergens neergezet.
Hek bij het toiletgebouw moest je een code voor hebben, hadden we niet. Geen wachtwoord van de Wi-Fi De volgende dag kwam er iemand zich melden, de baas was een paar dagen weg. Onvoorstelbaar slecht.

Liked Der Stellplatz direkt am Hafen ist einfach traumhaft! Die Lage könnte nicht besser sein – man wacht auf mit Blick aufs Wasser die Boote und dem Sonnenaufgang. Der Platz ist teils mit Rasen, teils mit Betonplatten angelegt, was für einen festen und sauberen Stand sorgt. Die Sanitäranlagen sind top: modern, super gepflegt und immer sauber. Perfekt für alle, die Wert auf Komfort und eine schöne Umgebung legen. Absolut empfehlenswert – wir kommen gerne wieder.

Local attractions

Built by Napoleon in 1811, Fort Sabina (10 minutes’ drive) is a five-sided earthen fort surrounded by a moat and strategically positioned on the banks of the Volkerak. Inside, exhibits illustrate the history of this structure, which operated as a shelter for local people during World War II, while the grounds are home to barn owls and kingfishers. The star-shaped city of Willemstad (15 minutes) is surrounded by water (and it has its own marina, on the river Hollands Diep). Take a tour of the fortifications, stopping at bastions like Friesland or Utrecht, or visit the 18th-century arsenal. Breda (35 minutes) spreads around the Grote Kerk, a 13th-century church with a delicately ornate bell tower and the tombs of the royal Orange family. Stop at the nearby market square for alfresco refreshments, then head to the Stadspark Valkenberg, a green area by the river Mark, for a yoga session or live music – or just to relax.
