Decided on an outdoor break at Hüde in Lower Saxony? Choose family-run Campingplatz Dümmersee and you’ll have the choice of two places to lay your head. Whichever site you plump for, you’ll have use of a private boat harbour with slipway and crane, and access to all the water-sports facilities of sprawling Dümmer Nature Park from your pitch. So how to make your choice? Site C10 sits directly on Lake Dümmer and is handy for the beach, a surfing centre and school, boat rental and pedal-boat or paddleboard hire. It’s also close to an adventure playground, a mini-golf course and beach volleyball or boules courts – in short, this is an ideal base for families looking for lots of stuff to do. The quieter C12 campsite is about 10 minutes’ stroll from the lakeside in the centre of Hüde, and lends itself to stays with younger kids as it has an enclosed landscaped park and a small playground. Facilities available on both sites include modern shower blocks, a self-service laundry, dishwashers and washing-up sinks, as well as communal cooking areas (a small fee applies to the latter). If you’re not into self-catering, family favourites like schnitzels and burgers are served daily in Dümmer Perle restaurant, and you’ll come across a bakery, seafood bar, ice-cream parlour and a beach bar within 10 minutes’ walk.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
A charge of €0.30 ($0.55) applies for the use of the shower.
Dogs are not allowed if you are staying in the accommodation units.
A cable measuring at least 9 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.
If reception is closed on arrival: please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Rental accommodation: electricity is metered on site at €0.60 per kWh and is payable on departure.

Liked: Der Platz verfügt über sehr gute und saubere Sanitäranlagen. Der junge Herr an der Rezeption ist sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Wir haben uns wohl gefühlt.

Disliked: Wir hatten einen Rasenstellplatz, der ziemlich durchgeweicht war, weil es sehr stark regnete.

Es wurden unsere Wünsche bestmöglich erfüllt und Fragen kompetent beantwortet.
Die Anlage und auch der Sanitärbereich waren an allen Tagen super sauber - und das trotz des andauernden Sturms.
Wir kommen auf jeden Fall nochmal wieder!

Disliked: Internet ist nicht überall zu bekommen bzw. stabil, aber wir konnten uns behelfen.

Sehr saubere und neuwertige Sanitär Anlagen.
Platzbetreiber und Personal auch sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.
Lecker Essen im Restaurant Dümmer Perle, und auch dort außerordentlich freundliches Personal.
Wir kommen auf alle Fälle noch einmal wieder.

Liked: Friendly checking in with good explanations of facilities etc…. Pitch was good size and within 50mtrs of the lakeside. Good walks and cycling around the lake. Showers were clean and hot with music playing. Restaurant on site looked good but we didn’t use. The bakery and the end of the road was fantastic for rolls and cakes and a cafe too.

Liked: Wir haben den letzten Platz auf der Sommerwiese erwischt und waren angenehm überrascht wie großzügig die Plätze sind. Alles sehr sauber. Die Sanitärhäuser sind sehr sauber. Wir kommen gewiss wieder. Trotz mehrfacher Regengüsse war die Wiese gut begehbar. An und Abreise war sehr einfach. Sehr nettes Personal.

Local attractions

Dümmersee Nature Park is water-sports central, offering gear hire and lessons in everything from sailing and kayaking to windsurfing and paddleboarding on the lake. You can play golf, go for a swim, challenge your family to volleyball competitions and get the kids involved in mini-golf games… among many other sporting activities. Should you encounter a rare rainy day, simply divert to the indoor pool and sauna at Freizeitbad Dümmer leisure centre (five minutes’ walk). To explore deeper into the nature park, rent bikes and family buggies (10 minutes) to pedal the forest tracks, open moorland and boggy wetlands around Lake Dümmer. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to spot storks, Arctic geese and cranes as you go – take the binoculars just in case. For spectacular views across forest to the wetlands of the nature park, clamber up to the top of the Dammer Schweiz observation platform (20 minutes’ drive). If everyone’s worn out with all the physical activity, head to the pretty village of Diepholz (15 minutes) for a nose around the moated, 12th-century castle and its natural-history museum.
