The team at family-run Camping du Bois de St Hilaire in the Vienne department of Chalandray reckon they can manage that for you as the site is in the calm seven-hectare forest of Saint Hilaire, in a peaceful part of the Poitou-Charentes province close to the medieval towns of Parthenay and Poitiers. This small and friendly site is just the ticket for families and dog owners, with plenty of scenic walks straight from the gates. A pool, play area, tennis courts, pétanque, a games room and miniature golf are all on site; a bar is open daily and wood-fired pizzas are served twice weekly. The modern amenities at Camping du Bois de St Hilaire are centrally located and include thermostatically controlled showers, washrooms and toilets, all maintained to high standards.

Great woodland site with spacious, private spots. Owners are super friendly, facilities are spotless (showers get a special mention!). Pool and bar are a hit, good value with heaps of free activities for everyone. Mostly quiet, though some found noise from others. Local shops are a short stroll away.

Location.

On turning up at this site at 2.30pm and trying the door to reception only to be shouted at from behind the counter ‘we are closed’. Not knowing what to do, we found a pitch out of the way, set up camp. When the reception finally opened at 3pm we were told we had to move and should have read the small chalk board when we arrived. The attitude and lack of engagement from the staff was appalling. When asked about good cycling routes around the area - I was directed to the back of a notice board outside, which had three faded maps on there. We were booked for 2 nights but left the site by 9am the next morning after the incessant road and factory noise. The queue for toilets and showers was ridiculous - 4 showers and 4 toilets for a campsite of its size was just not good enough! Finally the advertised woodland walk is a 300m loop on the campsite, half of which runs parallel to a road. I would not recommend this site if you are after a relaxing, countryside stay with the occasional activity.

Liked Petit Camping tranquil et familial. Les emplacements sont grands et bien ombragés. Sanitaires assez propres. Belle piscine et de nombreux jeux ( pétanque babyfoot ping pong. De grands terrains pour se promener et possibilité de faire des barbecues dans une zone prévue avec des barbecues à disposition.
