Peaceful place in the woods

  • Peaceful site by the Loire river, overlooking Métairie island
  • Direct access to the Loire à Vélo bike path to Tours and Amboise
  • Summer restaurant with homegrown and local produce, plus concerts
Take a trip to Indre-et-Loire and base yourself at the lovely leafy surrounds of Camping Les Acacias for prime access to the Loire, tours of Tours and châteaux galore. A friendly welcome awaits a couple of kilometres from La Ville-aux-Dames, close to the riverbank and overlooking the island of Métairie. However you roam it’s easy to get here: it’s close to an exit off the D751, 10 minutes’ drive from an intercity train station and a 15-minute drive from Tours airport. Once you’re through the gates, settle in for a peaceful time on a site filled with trees, grass and plenty of shaded spots. One of the highlights of the site is its food: the Camping Les Acacias owners have set up a permaculture farm with an orchard, kitchen, garden and henhouse, all providing the freshest of produce for the Taverne de la Métairie, the on-site summer restaurant. Pizzas, steak, salad and classic French desserts are all on the menu here, along with a kids’ menu and a concert stage with live music on some evenings. Menus are renewed every week. For some gentle activity, table tennis, pétanque and a well-equipped play area with slides, a trampoline and a summer bouncy castle are all on site. Barbecues are welcome and a supermarket is a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk away for supplies. Tours is 15 minutes’ drive from the site, or about half an hour by bike.

What customers say

Great stopover, peaceful woods & friendly staff. Restaurant's a hit. Some found pitches spacious & loos clean, but others flagged dated loos, poor Wi-Fi, site management issues, noise & accessibility concerns.

Liked La posizione buona per visitare Tours e anche i castelli di Amboise e Chenonceau (noi siamo andati in bicicletta per un totale di 80 km).
Possibilità di entrare ed uscire con codice a qualsiasi ora.

Disliked Zona reciclo rifiuti poco curata. Tende troppo vicino ai Van. Alla reception abbiamo trovato una signora abbastanza scortese che non parlava inglese e non era disponibile. Poi è arrivata un’altra più giovane che invece è stata più disponibile.

Liked On site restaurant had availability at short notice.
WiFi free.

Disliked Lady at reception was rude.
Only one person allowed in the office at a time but no notice to say that.
Gave us a pitch and the codes for the gates then told us we were at the wrong campsite (we weren’t!)
Facilities very lacking.
Damaged bollards and danger tape around hazards rather than any repairs.
Offsite bins make disposing of rubbish a chore.

Liked Booked last minute as a stop off when heading back upto Calais. Email sent with details of our pitch and how to get in should we arrive late. great basic facilities, very reasonably priced restaurant (although we didn't eat in it). Inflatables for the kids and small play area. Large grass area for them to kick a ball around

Disliked The electric hook up on our pitch didn't work. Luckily we had brought a 50ft extension to be able to plug into one up the road. The rubbish area had overflowing bins which needs sorting.

Liked An effort was made to deal with the problem of them not having our booking.

Disliked When we arrived, they were not expecting us, had no chalet ready. We had to wait while they cleaned a chalet and later they brought us bedding. I had the email from you and proof that I had paid them but it was stressful after driving a long way to get there.

Évasion 3 bedroom static caravan (six person)

Liked Possibility of arriving later and being able to use a keysafe . Good to be sent an email that day with the code for the gate and for the key safe and the number of the chalet.

Disliked The oven was out of order. Annoying because we had not noticed when we went to buy food for dinner so it was difficult to cook. Ended up at the bar for 3 of us and managed something on the hob for two.

Local attractions

Saddle up for a day (or several) of cycling: this is prime territory for biking and the site has adult and kids’ bikes for hire. The big trail here is La Loire à Vélo, an 800-kilometre track flanking the river down to the coast. Don’t feel obliged to ride the whole thing; the seven-kilometre riverside route into Tours makes a most pleasant portion for many guests. Another excellent use of bikes is a tour of the area’s vineyards and wineries – there’s a cluster of them within a 45-minute cycle: source a sparkling wine on your travels and sample it as part of a riverside picnic. The Loire region is rightly famed for its castles, and there are several within striking distance here, either by bike or in the car. It’s 15 minutes’ drive to the gorgeous gardens of Château de Valmer, and 20 minutes (or an hour’s riverside cycle) to Amboise, to visit the medieval Château d’Amboise and Château du Clos Lucé, former residence of Leonardo da Vinci.
