The peace, fresh air and affordability of a campsite, but with the leisure facilities of a smart hotel – and a family-friendly beach a few minutes’ walk away as well? It might sound like rather an extravagant wishlist, but you can hit the jackpot with the whole lot at Camping Chateau Aheloy.
This small site is a simple place within itself, with facilities stretching just to portable toilets, cold showers, a washing-up area and a wifi service. It’s completely fenced and monitored by security, so it should be safe for all guests (even kids and dogs prone to escape tricks…)
Thanks to a lovely collaboration with the hotel complex next door, campsite guests are welcome to use all the facilities over there while staying here. That includes all the leisure facilities – three pools (including a kids’ pool), a tennis court, an outdoor gym, a sports field and a restaurant – along with the practical amenities such as laundry facilities and a barbecue pavilion. You can also book wellness and beauty treatments to help you feel your very best on holiday.
And that beach? Well, as this site is just on the edge of the small seaside town of Aheloy, it's a short 10-minute stroll to the beach – a quiet stretch of sand that’s just the place for a relaxing family day. The town’s shops are a short walk away too. For other days out, it’s a 15-minute drive to Pomorie or Sunny Beach, and about 25 minutes to Burgas.

Local attractions
This stretch of coast is one where all sorts of seaside days are possible – you can either stay close to home to paddle and play in the sand at the local beach, or head to livelier Sunny Beach (15 minutes’ drive) for things like windsurfing, kitesurfing, parasailing and scuba diving.
Family days out around here might take you to Camel Park Sunny Beach (five minutes), or to Nessebar (15 minutes), where you can tour the UNESCO-listed ancient city before hitting the rides and slides of the huge Aquapark Nessebar (five minutes). If that sounds all a bit hectic, how about heading to the Pomorie saltpans (10 minutes) for a mud bath – these treatments are said to have excellent healing properties.
For big-city days, head to Burgas (25 minutes) to tour the Archaeological Museum and Natural History Museum and see the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Intrepid onward travellers can also board ferries here for the two-day trip to Istanbul.
