  • Small and friendly Mid Wales site easily accessible off the A483
  • Five minutes' drive to Llandrindod Wells; Builth Wells 15 minutes
  • On the banks of the Ithon river for fishing and walks
Now here’s a very handy spot for visitors planning to explore Mid Wales – Church House Farm is in a very strategic position just off the A483 (which runs north-south), very close to where it meets the A44 (which runs east-west). Llandrindod Wells (five minutes’ drive) is a handy local town for shops, places to eat and things to do, and a bus stop a few minutes' walk from the farm has services to Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells and various points in between. All of this means it’s easy to get out and about to see the area’s big sights or to soak up the scenery with things like walks, bike rides or days of wildlife watching. Even easier is a day of fishing, as the Ithon river runs through the site and has good stocks of chub and trout. It’s not all about location here, though – this is also a friendly and well-kept little site with nicely level and well-drained pitches and a good cluster of facilities. Those are all housed in a utility building that has clean, modern bathroom facilities (including free hot showers with no timers), a washing-up area and handy amenities including an iron, hairdryer and fridge-freezer. You can also charge your mobile phone here or pick something up from the book swap. This is a working livestock farm so you’ll get to spot a few animals while you’re here; dogs are welcome but you’ll need to make sure they’re supervised around the other animals.

Local attractions

Llandrindod Wells (five minutes' drive) is a handy place to find shops and places to eat, and it’s also home to a golf club, a pretty lake and the National Cycle Museum, with hundreds of bikes and associated memorabilia on display. Builth Wells (15 minutes) is another nice town to visit, with the River Wye running through its centre and various events running at the Royal Welsh Showground. Keeping it fairly local, you could also take a tour of the Grade II-listed Abbey Cwmhir Hall (10 minutes), a Gothic mansion with 12 acres of stunning gardens, or get up close to the big birds at Gigrin Farm’s Red Kite Feeding Station (15 minutes). The Elan Valley’s trails (25 minutes) and the route to Water-break-its-neck waterfall (20 minutes) are popular for walkers. Looking a little further afield, you can get to places like Hay-on-Wye, Ludlow, Hereford, Aberystwyth and Welshpool (for Powis Castle) with a drive of less than an hour. Brecon and the northern part of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park are also within an hour.
