  • Peaceful spacious site 15 minutes' drive from Glasgow city centre
  • Loch Lomond and the Trossachs within 45 minutes’ drive
  • Five minutes' walk from spotting deer at Frankfield Loch
Park up for your hols at Red Deer Village Holiday Park, a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the small Lanarkshire town of Stepps and within easy reach of Glasgow city centre. This is a top spot for a city break with the peace of a countryside retreat: those who crave urban explores will be well-served by Glasgow – a 15-minute drive or a 25-minute train ride from base – for strolls through botanic gardens, sups at distilleries, culture at museums and galleries, and splendid shopping. For those more in need of a rural getaway, there’s plenty round here to satisfy too: the Frankfield Loch wildlife sanctuary is a five-minute walk away for wanders among wild deer, and a 20-minute walk along paths from the site will bring intrepid adventurers to Cardowan Moss woodland, where there’s a network of trails to follow on foot or by bike. Don’t spend too long away from site the though – settle in for quiet evenings away from crowds and chaos with some self-catered evenings by the barbecue (buy gas on site), piling on food picked up from the well-stocked shop nearby. Otherwise, Stepps has a handy pub, café and restaurant within 15 minutes' walk of the site. Clean up after dinner by dispatching humans to the always-hot showers, and sort dishes (and stained clothes from sloppy eaters) at the dishwashing facilities and launderette.

Power optional concrete and grass caravan site

Liked: The size of the pitches was great with a lovely expanse of grass with picnic tables. Plenty of bins and all signed chemical point. Clean washing area.
Best bit..a short walk to Stepps station and a 15 min train ride to Glasgow.

Disliked: The showers need a bit of tlc. The water to ages to come through hot and with temperatures of 0 degrees it would have been nice if the heating was on in the toilet block

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: thank you for your feedback. We have just replaced our water tank and showers so hot water should certainly not be an issue, so we will definitely be investigating this and the issue with the heating. Thank you for bringing them to our attention.

Unpowered grass tent site (large)

Liked: Loved how quiet and secure the site felt. This was my first time camping away with my two kids (10 and 7) on my own for two nights. I don't drive but live relatively local. My husband was able to drop us off and pop back to spend the day together. I met no site staff during my stay but there was no issues with site facilities (toilets, bins, grass, etc). Although we didn't use the showers on site. Loved how close the toilet blocks were to the camping space and felt comfortable leaving the kids sleeping to pop to the toilet.

As I booked through pitch up the arrival time stated was after 12 but communication directly from red deer was not before 3pm - just something to watch for if you're booking that I didn't notice until I had arrived.

Would definitely love to come back here, maybe trying my first winter camp.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay onsite and found the facilities to your liking. If you choose to do a winter camp we would love to see you back.
With regards to check in time, we are fairly flexible with the Camping and Touring Pitches. The 3pm is more aimed at our chalets and holiday homes, although I'll have a look at the wording from our side - thanks for pointing this out.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, it is much appreciated.

Canna/Tiree/Jura/Skye/Lewis/Islay 3 bedroom cottage / chalet / bungalow

Liked: Liked the area. Was out everyday doing something. Visiting relatives at bands at museums wasn't a day we couldn't find anything to do. And trains were on offer at the time, so site well situated

Disliked: Wasn't impressed with the interior of the chalet, there was a constant dirty smell in the lounge, and a constant damp smell in the bathroom, bough airfreshner but still there, pillows were filthy we went and bought our own pillows, so id recomend taking your own bedding and table placemats were badly stained couldn't be cleaned. With me having no immune system I ended up ill was just so damp and dirty smell. But reception was shut before we got back from our days out....And we couldn't swap as was only chalet one we could see with a ramp access. I'd stay again but not in that chalet has a serious damp issue.

From the manager: thank you for your comments. although the office was closed when you returned from your trips, we wish you would have emailed the office to give us the chance to address your concerns. we apologise for your experience as this is certainly not the standard we would expect and will certainly be investigating these issues. particularly your comments on this home are surprising, as this is our most recently refurbished property.

Good to get to Glasgow City Centre

Disliked: No staff around at all
One poor electric shower and one toilet for over 20 pitches.
Wi-Fi didn’t work. Tried six times to load password and it still said I had put it in wrong
Left early.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we are disappointed you don't seem to have enjoyed your time at our site, however glad you liked the location.
With regards to your comment about the showers, we have recently had an issue with our Water Heater at our larger shower / toilet block which unfortunately had to be closed during your stay, however we did have another block to use and we also opened the disabled toilet / shower room to provide an additional outlet. I understand fully that it made this block much busier than usual although we did explain this to you in the email sent on the 13/09/24.
Staff are onsite Monday to Friday (also advised on all paperwork send from time of booking), your stay was from Sunday till Wednesday, therefore there were staff onsite from Monday at 0800 hours, ground staff, housekeepers, admin and Management all onsite from Monday morning. We would have appreciated you coming to seek assistance with the wi-fi, we would have been more than happy to help you. There is also a contact number to call if you needed a staff member at anytime.
We have now had our large toilet block repaired and I hope you will visit us again in the future, hopefully we can change your opinion on our park.
