What customers say

Awesome campsite! Staff are legends, facilities top-notch, and the location's stunning. Clean loos, spacious sites, great for families. Chill vibe, easy to Cheddar. Fire pits and food vendors a hit. Can get busy, but totally worth it – heaps are keen to go back!

Unpowered grass site

Liked Excellent location with safe easy level walk into Cheddar. Site although large does not feel crowded. Camping area is well laid out, level, segregated but with a relaxed approach that more than lived up to its 'free range camping' aim. The on-site facilities were excellent and always kept amazingly clean. Plenty of drinking water taps located around the site and the ethos of 'keep it clean and re-cycle at all times' was easily achieved with the provision of recycling bags and bins and a well laid out recycling area.
The staff were very friendly, courteous, efficient and always ready and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that you have a good stay.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Very well run site. Was super busy as it was a BH weekend but it was slick and easy to get a pitch. The recycling tub was a wonderful idea!!

Disliked Despite a curfew for music there were lots of large groups playing music until 4 in the morning. Lots of yelling between fields also telling people to be quiet and lots of yelling back. It was not a nice atmosphere. Cannot say if this is normal as it was our first time, but it was not a peaceful time. But I guess you have to expect that from a very large site. As someone who sleeps through anything, I didn’t sleep well at all.
The toilets, of which there are many, were awful first thing in the morning but were always cleaned late morning.

Liked Pleasant staff!

Disliked Excessive amount of smoke from all the log burners. Maybe it was the busy period but if you have severe asthma you’d struggle.

Liked Such a lovely place for families! You actually feel like you're part of a community. The facilities are very clean and accessible, and there's even a shop near the entrance in case you forget something. They have food vans and live music as well, you can wake up to a delicious breakfast and coffee without having to prepare it.
Before you arrive, they send you all the information you need, so you literally cannot miss anything. We'll definitely visit again!

Liked Separate adults field. Showers and toilets clean and water hot. Staff were lovely and plenty of them. You could hire a firepit and logs for sitting out in the evening. Food trucks on site. Entertainment. Close to the village centre.

Liked The facilities are extremely well maintained. The staff are plentiful and on hand. We heard that the enforcement of the 10pm music off rule had been insisted upon by the owner one evening and were impressed that the site stands by its rules. Lovely bank holiday vibe with food vendors, mini bar, local brewery stand and live music (covers for all ages) until 9pm. The coffee/breakfast shack which opens at 7.30pm is always most welcome.

Disliked Nothing at all. We returned this year and had another fantastic weekend in beautiful Cheddar. Would recommend to all.

Route directions

Use postcode BS27 3XW for your satnav but please stop following it and start following the directions below when you are a couple of miles away - that way you'll not end up on an unmade road or on the site drive. If you are approaching Cheddar from the west, and you are towing a caravan or driving a large motorhome, then please exit the M5 motorway at junction 22, not 21. Travel along the A371 through the centre of Cheddar village. You will pass Tesco on your right and the Bath Arms on your left. Continue on this road passing St Andrew's Church followed by Cheddar Football Club on your right. After a further 250 yards, take a right turn off the A371 into Labourham Way. Take an immediate left, slow to walking pace and you’ll see our large sign in front of you – simply take a sharp left through the gateway and follow the track into the carpark. If you are approaching Cheddar from the east, and you are towing a caravan or driving a large motorhome on the B3135, please do not turn left signposted Gliding Club, but continue down the Gorge. Travel along the A371 through Draycott. You will pass the Cheddar Garden Centre and the Kart track followed by a nasty S bend. On exiting the bend, take an immediate left off the A371 at the "Welcome to Cheddar" sign into Labourham Way then another immediate left, slow to walking pace and you’ll see our large sign in front of you – simply take a sharp left through the gateway and follow the track into the carpark. Public transport: The bus stop is just a 10 minute walk away and will take to you either Weston Super Mare or Yatton train stations within an hour.

Local attractions

There’s loads within walking distance of the campsite to keep you entertained. Fancy sampling local produce? Cheddar Ales Brewery, Tap Room and Shop (five minutes’ walk) has a range of award-wining ales. Walk a bit further on a Sunday morning and you’ll come to Cheddar Car Boot and Market (10 minutes), with a lakeside setting and lots of bric-à-brac to browse. Cheddar itself is a 10-minute meander along the Strawberry Line footpath, crossing the Cheddar Yeo river into the village, where there’s a posh pub (all the more reason to leave the car behind), a butcher, baker and supermarkets. A few more minutes’ stroll gets you to Kings Fitness and Leisure with a pool (handy for rainy days), Ocean Adventures Soft Play and sailing on the reservoir. Cheddar Gorge and Caves is a 20-minute amble from your door and is home to restaurants, a cheese factory, a cider mill and souvenir shops, as well as caverns and tunnels running deep under the Mendip Hills. A short car journey takes you to Wookey Hole Caves (15 minutes’ drive), with spectacular subterranean caverns and family entertainment like pirate ships and dinosaur trails. Wells (20 minutes) is the smallest city in England and has a landmark cathedral and a medieval bishop’s palace in moated gardens. Within half an hour’s drive you have a choice of sandy beaches: Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea and Berrow, and at Mendip Activity Centre (20 minutes) you can learn to ski, go twilight tobogganing or play golf-frisbee on woodland trails.
