  • No-frills pop-up campsite five minutes’ drive from Tenterden in Kent
  • Sissinghurst Castle Garden 20 minutes’ drive and Rye 25 minutes
  • Grass pitches on a smallholding; pubs and shop five minutes’ drive
Set on eight peaceful acres of Kent countryside five minutes’ drive from Tenterden, Hedgeberry Farm is a pop-up campsite with spacious pick-your-own pitches in a meadow surrounded with far-reaching rural views and lined by mature trees. During your time on this working smallholding, you will wake up to the song of birds and fall asleep to the hoot of owls; in between those times you can witness sheep grazing in neighbouring paddocks, meet the goats and walk yourselves – and any canine companions – around fields edged with wildflowers. The wild camping experience at Hedgeberry really is pretty wild: there’s a fresh water supply and portable loos, charging facilities for your devices and freezer space to keep your food fresh, but apart from that you’re free to fend for yourselves. Pick up supplies from the convenience store in the local village of Rolvenden (five minutes’ drive), where there are also a couple of pubs if you fancy a night off from the barbecue. Larger shopping forays can be done in the supermarkets of Tenterden, and you can always stay on a while to sample the town’s takeaways, pubs and restaurants.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: - Spacious pitches in a field on a farm.
Two bell tents and only one other couple camping with a tent. Perfect for our 3 year old and 4 year old to have plenty of space to run and play.
- Friendly helpful owners who live on the farm.
- Port-a-loo’s
- Drinking water.
- Clean site.
- Sheep, pigs and chickens in the pens/fields.
- Quiet.
- Great value for money at £18 for four of us.

Disliked: Not a dislike, advice.
Pay the extra £5 to take a gazebo if it’s a hot day.
No shade in the field until late afternoon.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: Lovely area, hosts were lovely and there’s farm animals which the little ones loved. Basic campsite, good value for money.

Disliked: Being very close to other campers despite there only being 2 other families there. The actual camping field is small, not like the photos. The photos make it look like big open fields with plenty of space which is specifically what we look for as we don’t like being close to other campers. This was not the case, I think what you see in the photos is now all sectioned and fenced off for animals? I did ask the lady where we can walk around the fields and she said there’s nowhere really to walk on site apart from around the animals?

I was also excited to choose our own pitch as stated on the listing. But the lady told us where we had to plot, which was right next to a pig pen. I love animals but had I of known I was going to be sleeping and eating no more than a metre away from a pig pen and metres away from other campers I would not have booked.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked: A beautiful campsite. Peaceful and serene surroundings. Ali and Nick were wonderful hosts, incredibly friendly and helpful. They brought us a fire pit when needed and I used the phone charging facilities several times. I stayed as a single parent with my three children and felt very safe and looked after. There was a lovely shower available on site and the portaloos were kept incredibly clean. Lots of fresh running water. The children loved the animals and got to help Nick feed them on several occasions. They especially loved the goats! The site was less than an hours stroll into Tenterden where we went shopping, swimming and spent several hours in the large park. It was also a very short walk to Rolvenden station where we caught the Steam train to Bodiam. I will be recommending this campsite to all friends and family and will definitely return myself. It’s a little gem in the beautiful Kent countryside.

Disliked: There wasn’t really anything to dislike!
