  • Peaceful adults-only site two miles from the Norfolk Broads
  • A 15-minute drive from Norwich city centre; 25 minutes from the coast
  • Atmospheric night-time vibes from lit woodlands; café and farm shop
If boating on The Broads has long been on your bucket list, take a look here: the dog-friendly Black Barn Farm is a peaceful place to pitch up two miles from the edge of the national park. Here, the adults-only pitches are in a 22-acre field in an established orchard and surrounded by woodlands, making for a rather chilled-out stay. This area is known as the big sky country, so splendid sunsets and lights in the trees create a pretty nice night-time vibe. You’ll be able to kick off the evening with a firepit or barbecue too, as both are permitted on site. A 15-minute drive from Norwich, this site is on the edge of Salhouse, a rural Broads village. So, bridleways and footpaths may be the first thing to capture your attention, as they lead the way to walking, wildlife spotting and canoe hire in the Salhouse Broad – or there's a place to launch your own canoe or paddleboard, two miles away from the site. Convenience is key at this site, starting with the toilets and showers inside the barn, all heated with auto light switches for that extra ease. The barn also has a small farm shop and a café that serves up sizeable breakfasts plus sandwiches and snacks. Nearby, a train station and bus stop are within walking distance with regular services to Norwich city centre or the coast. Foodie? The local food shop is a 20-minute walk away along a public footpath (or a five-minute car journey). For more specific bits, there’s a bigger supermarket 10 minutes’ drive away and beer aficionados will find a brewery and pub five minutes’ drive away too.

What customers say

Peaceful, adult-only park. Spacious, level pitches, many with water/electric. New, clean facilities, though showers/toilets can be limited when busy. Popular barn cafe/shop for food & local goods. Great for exploring The Broads & Norwich with good transport. WiFi & small sinks noted as minor issues.

Liked Lovely relaxed site, pitches a decent size and divided by low hedges; we could choose our own pitch. There is a lovely orchard area where it was nice to wander walking the dogs. Facilities are clean and modern.

Disliked A few more toilets and showers would be useful for when the site is full. Also a noticeboard with information of local walks / amenities would be helpful.

Liked Good value for money.
Staff polite and helpful.
The pitches were a decent size!
Got to pick where we went meaning our family got pitches together.
Electric hook up was easy.
Toilets/showers were very clean.
On site butchers was a welcome bonus for BBQs.
Had cooked breakfasts at the barn which was delicious.
Dog friendly site.
Area feels secluded but is close to various amenities.

Disliked These are only little things that are a personal note but didn’t take away from the lovely time we had.

Couldn’t find any recycling facilities only general waste.
No sanitary waste bins in the bathroom block.
Most pitches had a dog and no dog bins available.
Would have preferred the toilet/shower block to be for campers only as it’s shared with general public visiting the barn.
If your a light sleeper take earplugs as pitch is near a flight path for landing planess.

Liked Great site at the back of a big barn with a very popular cafe upstairs and a butchers deli and other shops on by the ground floor. The pitches are a great size separated by bushes and surrounded by the orchard or farmland. All have ehu and most have water. Facilities all clean and modern are in the barn. Nicely pub 15 minute walk, bus and train stop just up the road. Had a great informal vibe. Nice spot would revisit. They have farmers markets and other events.

Liked Easy, laid back check in. Toilet and shower block is excellent and the site is very quiet. Having the cafe/farm shop on site is a huge plus, it's way better than I was expecting.

Disliked WiFi doesn't reach the pitches and the phone signal is terrible in the area.

Liked Lovely big level pitches, spotless toilets and showers, in a heated block obviously cleaned regularly. Plenty of hot water to wash dishes in large sinks, convenience of having a cafe serving a variety of breakfasts and meals. On-site butchers, small grocery shop with a large selection of items and treats, clothes shop, beautiful card and picture stall , carved wooden animal and bird stall to name a few. We stayed with our little dog and everywhere was dog friendly, with plenty of places to walk. Lovely idea having lights in the trees. Ideal base for visiting the Broads and the coast. Will definitely come again

Liked The size of the pitches, very generous.
The very clean toilets and showers, despite there being only 4 toilets and two showers, I never had to queue!
The farm cafe - except for the wasps!

Disliked The price was on the high side for what was offered More like a £25 pitch really.
No wifi.

Liked Very informal, quiet adult only site. Showers were generally very clean and we enjoyed breakfast in the barn. Jason’s Fish and Chips is a 5 min drive and excellent!

Disliked A small point but the area on the way in could do with a tidy up or just hidden.

Local attractions

Nosy about Norwich (15 minutes’ drive)? Those of you who aren’t familiar with this cultural city will find there’s much to stick your nose into, from bargain hunting around the old market to a full-on shopping trip or a pitstop tour of the independent eateries and historic sites… the highlight reel includes the hilltop Norwich Castle and the 11th-century cathedral. Those of you who are keen to weave a bit of the seaside into your way will want to head on over to the sandy beach and dunes at Winterton beach (35 minutes) or onto Great Yarmouth (25 minutes). This seaside resort town is all about the traditional, including a funfair, sandy beaches and the Sea Life Great Yarmouth aquarium. Once you’ve picked out those colourful fishies in the tanks, bigger animals wander around the local wildlife parks and zoos. Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (25 minutes) has red pandas, tigers and leopards among them, while Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (25 minutes) couples up snakes, wallabies and alpacas with rides and playgrounds.
