  • On the edge of the village of Gamlingay; Cambridge 25 minutes' drive
  • Dogs welcome on leads; one mile from pubs and restaurants
It's peaceful and surrounded by quiet countryside, but you'll never feel solitary at Solitaire Farm. That's because this friendly rural site is set in an attractive location on the edge of the Cambridgeshire village of Gamlingay. At this small-scale spot, guests can pitch up in a spacious and level field with far-reaching rural views. The pitches are a short walk away from a modern amenities block hosting the farm's toilets and showers. Pets are welcome at Solitaire Farm, but please do keep your furry friends on leads. Solitaire Farm is about a mile away from Gamlingay village centre, where there are two play areas, several nature reserves and a good number of well-liked local pubs and restaurants.

Local attractions

A jaunt to Jordans Mill (15 minutes' drive) is always a popular option for a refreshing change of scene, as this historic building just over the border in Bedfordshire also has a shop, gardens and a café to check out. Shuttleworth Swiss Garden (15 minutes) is another green spot nearby where you'll likely find peace and quiet, as is RSPB The Lodge (15 minutes), a popular birdwatching spot in an attractive heathland location. Other nearby attractions include Old Warden Aerodrome (15 minutes), an extensive private aircraft collection located in an area with close ties to the RAF, the Wimpole Estate (20 minutes), a National Trust-managed property set in 3,000 acres of parkland, and Shepreth Wildlife Park (25 minutes), a safari park home to an array of creatures great and small. Day trips to the colleges and quadrangles of Cambridge (25 minutes) are also a possibility, as are trips to top-class museums like the Fitzwilliam (25 minutes), IWM Duxford's military collections (30 minutes) and the John Bunyan Museum (30 minutes). Finally, for a bit of spectator sport instead, you're within 25 minutes of the far-famed Huntingdon Racecourse.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: Quiet location in the middle of countryside farming fields with the sounds of the cockerel in the morning, which was a lovely thing to hear. Toilet and wash up facilities slightly away from the main camping area but just a short walk.
Basic and does what it needs to.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked: We loved to natural landscapes and quiet pitches as well as the ability to choose your own pitch
There was a lovely farm shop onsite with great bacon, eggs and sausage
Owners of the farm were lovely and friendly coming to check on every customer when they arrived and introduced themselves

Disliked: The only thing that would have made it better would have been more than one toilet and shower especially when they are in the same room making a bit of a queue when the campsite got busy

Liked: Big field and nice facilities, overpriced however you pay for location sometimes.

Disliked: Price, could use it on my trips to London, it's just too expensive to use regularly.
