  • Dog-friendly site on a working farm in the Peak District National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell and 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Walks direct from the pitches and a welcoming pub 10 minutes’ stroll
Cows and sheep for neighbours, gorgeous walks from the pitches and the likes of Bakewell (home of delicious almond-flavoured tarts) and Chatsworth House within 20 minutes’ drive… who could turn down a Peak District National Park getaway at Brosterfield Farm Caravan Park? What a stunning and peaceful place it is, too: the camping meadow is surrounded by fields and operates as a quiet site, which means no loud noise or music allowed, please, as the owners want you to relax and get back to nature. Spotless facilities include modern showers, toilets, a pot-washing area and a chemical disposal point. In addition, there are a couple of electric-car charging points as well as recycling facilities in the corner of the camping field. Barbecues are allowed (bring your own from home), and you can stock up on bits for the grill at the supermarket in Bakewell. Your canine chums (up to two per pitch) are also welcome, and luckily, the local pub is dog-friendly (both inside and out) with an excellent restaurant, open fires and good ales. It’s only 10 minutes’ walk away in the pretty village of Foolow, which has a duck pond and is the start of many Peak District walks and mountain-biking trails.

A tranquil, tidy spot in stunning Derbyshire Dales. Guests loved the roomy pitches & top-notch modern amenities. Handy for a top pub and walks. Busy facilities sometimes, but mostly brilliant – many keen to head back.

Liked I found the facilities exceptional as they were very clean and inviting. The WiFi coverage was also good. The campsite was very clean and the pitches were very nicely spaced out. Aaron was very friendly and often came over to check if everything was ok and if we needed anything to ensure our stay was perfect.

Disliked We didn’t dislike any aspect of the campsite. One day there was a family who were very loud but this was sorted out quickly so not an issue.

Unpowered grass site

Liked Large pitches. Well placed site for the village pub & lots of beautiful countryside walks

Disliked Could do with more toilets & showers for the size of the site. Taps that actually reach the bowl/sink in the washing up area & water was only luke warm .
No hand drier in the toilets & paper towel kept running out .
A bit pricey at £5 per night for a dog !

Liked Beautiful location, very quiet site with nice big pitches even on Bank Holiday weekend it was quiet and relaxing. Even though only 3 showers and 2 toilets it was fine they were very clean and well maintained as were the 2 additional portaloos. There is an amazing pub within walking distance which served the best Sunday Roasts ever!

Disliked The pot wash water was cold.. no hot water to wash pots. Also no hot water in the sinks in the ladies loos. Luckily the shower was nice and hot.

Liked - Common areas are clean.
- The litter bins are tidy and clean.
- There is a barrier at the entrance of the camping area, which you can enter - with CCTV security and a code.
- So when you leave the tent you feel safe.

Disliked - I don't know if the comments saying "the views are beautiful" were made by paying for them, but there is no view.
- There is no natural view within the campsite. Just the trees surrounding the campsite and the vehicles and tents of other campers.
- When you leave the campsite and want to go for a walk, you go directly onto the road where there are motor vehicles, so it is not a place suitable for walking.
- Two shower areas are right next to the toilet, so when someone is using the toilet, you are showering, or vice versa. If you go to the toilet, you are suffocated by the steam from the shower areas.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

I do feel compelled to address a couple of issues, I have never paid for reviews. I dont need to. Being in the hospitality industry for over 15 years we have an excellent record of reviews both in our self catering properties and latterly with the campsite over the last couple of years, since we opened.

When you leave the campsite, you come on to a country lane with a pavement. It is a small country road leading through a small and quiet village. You turn left, you hit the country pub, walking a bit further you can walk up to the highest pub in Derbyshire.

Turn right and you can take the bridlepath over to Eyam or many, hundreds of walks.

Alternatively, you can walk through our little gate at the bottom of the campsite straight on to the footpath where there are endless miles of walks without even putting a step on to a road at all. Hence I am a little confused by your statement.

I do apologise sincerely for the steam from the showers, we were waiting for the new extractor, which has now been fitted.

Liked Beautiful views, short walk to a lovely pub, good location to explore the area and there’s some great walks nearby.

Disliked Not enough toilet cubicles (even the men were queuing!) and there’s not enough space inside the toilet/shower block.

Local attractions

Hikers can soon be out on the Monsal Trail (10 minutes’ drive), which offers spectacular views over Monsal Dale and the viaduct at Monsal Head. Kids will have fun crossing the stepping stones at Chee Dale (20 minutes), where you can all follow the River Wye through its limestone gorge. Alternatively, families may prefer to spend the day on cable-car rides at the Heights of Abraham (35 minutes), take vintage vehicle jaunts from Crich Tramway Village or enjoy dinosaur trails and adventure golf at Gulliver’s Kingdom (both 40 minutes). Peak District National Park culture vultures among you? As well as a farmyard where kids can meet the animals, stately Chatsworth House (20 minutes) is set in Capability Brown-designed parkland and has a fantastic art collection, while largely 12th-century Haddon Hall (25 minutes) is open for tours of its vaulted banqueting hall and formal Elizabethan gardens. The infamous ‘plague village’ of Eyam (five minutes’ drive) is packed with pretty stone cottages and cute tearooms, and there’s a craft centre at the Jacobean-era Eyam Hall. A former spa town, Buxton (25 minutes) has a lively cultural scene and an acclaimed opera house; book ahead for tickets.
