Planning to do Madrid in a motorhome? Here's an easy way to do it, and experience some lovely rural peace into the bargain as well: park up at Complejo La Cigüeña, just outside the town of Arganda del Rey and about 15 miles from the centre of the Spanish capital. The dog-friendly pitches here are spacious and quiet, and they’re designed especially for motorhomes, with electric and water connections for each pitch as well as a shared water drainage area. Showers and toilets are also provided, along with a wifi connection to help you plan your travels around the area. So that's the essentials covered – but there's more to this site than just the basics. It’s also a place where you can rent electric bikes to help you get around easily, take swims in the open-air pool (open during high season only) and grab easy meals or drinks at the restaurant/cafeteria, which has a large terrace to help you make the most of those summer evenings. Getting into Madrid should be straightforward, as there are good connections via both metro and bus nearby. Also close by are the shopping centre and outlet shops in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, the towns of Chinchón and Aranjuez and Parque Warner Madrid. Madrid’s Barajas airport is about a half-hour drive away, making this a handy choice for a first stop if you've hired your vehicle there.

Electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: It's was quiet and clearly out of season which is to be expected in early Jan. There was evidence of routine maintenance but that never disrupted.

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike. The maintaining is very common in the low season so acceptable

Electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Liked: - grassy and spacious pitches
- general landscaping of site UB

Disliked: - only toilets and showers available were both disabled ones therefore lack of exclusive use by disabled people
- fetid smell from ornamental pond at one end of site
- loud music at night coming from the chalet areas. Suspect it was a staff party.
- apart from above, was reasonably peaceful, mainly due to very few vans using the site when we were there
- nearest metro station 15 minutes away by car- had to take our van each day.
- no WiFi

Electric grass and earth motorhome pitch

Disliked: CAMPER NO.

Local attractions

Whether you're a first-timer or a frequent visitor, there’s always something for you to do in Madrid. If you're new to the capital, you'll definitely want to visit the Plaza Mayor, the cathedral, the Royal Palace and the Prado. Those who've seen all of that should still find plenty of smaller museums, gardens and churches to visit, or might like to take a tour of the Bernabeu Stadium. For urban life on a smaller scale, head to Chinchón (25 minutes' drive) to see its medieval square and Casasola Castle, or Aranjuez (35 minutes) for the Royal Palace and its spectacular gardens. Something to please the kids? How about a trip to meet the animals at Faunia (15 minutes), a zoo with hundreds of different species, or Parque Warner Madrid (20 minutes), where you can meet cartoon characters and superheroes as well as trying all the rides and seeing movie stunts in action.
