Car fans, vehicle aficionados, speed demons and wheel whizzkids, what a bumper time will be had at Camping Village Mugello Verde near Scarperia e San Piero in Florence. It's under 15 minutes from here (or less if you put your foot down) to the famed racing track of Mugello Circuit, where cars and motorbikes have sped around for decades. The circuit is home to the annual Italian Moto GP for biker types and their steely steeds: if the mere thought of motorcycles makes your heart rev, this is a roaringly fab place to be. And if you're not a hairy biker type or an enthusiast of all things engine? Florence, hill hiking and Chianti vineyards are all a cinch to sort here too for more peaceful and placid times. On site among this lush green Tuscan hills setting, spend time at the huge pool, suitable for big and small sorts and with a roomy sun terrace with sun loungers alongside And while you're in this lush region, Tuscan cuisine must be fully checked out too… The simplest way to do this is to stroll over to the restaurant-pizzeria, for regional dishes like seafood specialities, Florentine steak and Mugello potato tortelli to have indoors or on the covered terrace overlooking the pool. Zip along to the bar for breakfast, snacks all day, ice cream sundaes and cocktails, and to the mini market for foodie bits including fresh regional produce: you should be fully driven to stock up here too.

Liked: The showers, toilets and all sanitary areas were spotless. Sully the cleaner was a happy man singing along to his music and very polite and helpful. The Reception staff were polite and the food in the restaurant was good and reasonable. The pitches were big. There was plenty of information given to you and the free shuttle bus to the station was excellent . Overall the best site we have been to in Italy and would definitely recommend.

Disliked: Need more gravel on the pitches as very muddy when it it or has rained

Liked: The staff were magnificent, nothing was a problem. The park itself was picture postcard. The restaurant was very reasonable and the food was fantastic. We thought the place was that good, we extended our stay. The amenities keeper, Stanley, was a breath of fresh air and very knowledgeable regarding Florence and other resources. We are on a whistle stop your of Europe from Australia. Our stay was our favourite since we commenced our trip. This venue is absolute value for money with outstanding staff and fantastic amenities. Do yourself a favour and stay awhile. It will be one of the best decisions you make. Thankyou Village Mugello Verde

Liked: Tutto ciò che si trova fuori dal campeggio.

Disliked: E' evidente che siamo al Mugello!

In questo camping il personale non è in grado di garantire il rispetto delle regole e del buon senso. Sarà da come si descrivono loro stessi già dalla loro presentazione, sarà per la bella strada asfaltata e priva di dossi, la velocità minima a cui le auto sfrecciano sfiorando le piazzole sono da multa e da ritiro di patente.

Riporto le esatte parole della loro hompage:
"Appassionati di auto, fan della velocità, geni delle due ruote... il Camping Village Mugello Verde vi aspetta nel comune di Scarperia e San Piero vicino a Firenze.
Si trova a circa 15 minuti (anche meno, se dai gas) dall’autodromo internazionale del Mugello, che ospita ogni anno il Gran Premio di Moto GP. Se la sola idea di moto che sfrecciano ti fa battere il cuore, hai trovato il posto giusto in cui trascorrere le tue prossime vacanze. E se invece i motori non ti appassionano più di tanto? Qui sei comunque a due passi da Firenze, e puoi raggiungere facilmente i vigneti del Chianti e concederti delle tranquille escursioni in collina."

Giusto per incentivare l'utilizzo dei mezzi a motore anche di notte, esiste un unico blocco di servizi al centro del campeggio che si sviluppa sul crinale di una collina, per cui o si scende o si sale, per fare la pipì, e molti scelgono di muovere l'auto (ovviamente a 70 km/h minimo).

Altra chicca sono i chiodi e i picchetti dimenticati che disseminano le piazzole dure come marmo che possono provocare forature (ho visto esempi di gomme a terra con i miei occhi).

La disponibilità di frigo e freezer ad uso pubblico è un'ottima chance di farsi fottere i ghiacciolini o la birra (ci è successo pure questo).

Su Pitchup si deve pagare per intero il soggiorno al momento della prenotazione, così come quando si prenotano dei panini d'asporto: E' chiaro che sanno che al momento del conto finale ci saranno sicuramente delle contestazioni.

Local attractions

Get into gear for a fab vehicular time at Mugello Circuit, 10 to 15 minutes from the site at Scarperia. The Italian motorcycle Grand Prix has been held here since 1994; buy tickets for this and other events in advance from the circuit website. Elsewhere around the region, there are Chianti vineyards and old villages to explore, much more Tuscan cuisine to investigate, and hiking and cycling to have among the surrounding hills. Florence is a short drive away for more ancient site and general fabness – you'll need several days here – and you're within day trip distance of other fine Tuscan cities including Lucca (an hour's drive), Pisa (an hour and 10 minutes) and Siena (an hour and a half). If you're keen to empty your wallet and fill up your suitcase, the swish shops of the Barberino Designer Outlet are under 15 minutes' drive away.
