- Lakeside site for active families at Pont-et-Massène in Côte-d’Or
- Semur-en-Auxois five minutes’ drive, and MuséoParc Alésia 20 minutes
- Shaded grass pitches; boat, kayak and waterski hire five minutes’ walk
Need lots of active stuff to keep the kids happy? Camping Pont du Lac on the outskirts of Pont-et-Massène village in Côte-d’Or has quite the list of things to do and see. This pretty corner of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is also stacked with lots of handsome architecture to discover and decent restaurants to please all budding gourmets.
And the inventory of activities doesn’t end there. The site itself also has walking trails within its grounds (great for exercising any accompanying four-legged chums), and offers various activities like tennis, basketball, volleyball and ping-pong so everyone can keep busy.
There’s boating on Lac de Pont, a few minutes’ amble from the pitches; down by the waterside you can also hire kayaks and waterskis at the Club Nautique Terres d’Auxois (five minutes’ walk), or stretch out on the river beach in warmer weather.
The grass pitches are tucked under mature trees and divided by high hedges for complete privacy. A facilities block with showers and washing-up sinks completes the roster of amenities on site.

Local attractions
If you need to prise everyone away from watersports on Lac de Pont, perhaps a day playing laser tag and climbing trees at Auxois Morvan Aventure (10 minutes’ drive) might persuade the kids to budge. If that doesn’t do the trick, blackmail animal-loving family members with a trip to Parc de l’Auxois (20 minutes), a wildlife park featuring free-range flamingos, a petting farm and mini-train rides.
Sneak a bit of culture into the kids with a visit to hilltop Château de Thil (15 minutes), where you can all watch battle re-enactments, let the kids dress up as mini knights and see all manner of reconstructed medieval weaponry. If you’d like to dive into ancient Roman history, MuséoParc Alésia (20 minutes) is an immersive and futuristic museum relating the tale of Caesar invading Gaul.
There’s more gorgeous architecture to be admired in the historic town of Semur-en-Auxois (five minutes’ drive), where you can walk around sturdy ramparts for views of Renaissance mansions and the River Auxois. The town is also liberally sprinkled with enticing bistros, bars and cafés.
