- Spacious safari tents off the D703 near Coux-et-Bigaroque
- Five minutes' drive to the Dordogne river; Beynac 20 minutes
- Heated outdoor pools, restaurant and canoe trips on site
The fresh air and scenic views of a campsite or the convenience and comfort of a rental stay? Bringing both together in one gorgeous Dordogne location is Europe Tents at Camping Le Clou, just off the D703 about five minutes' drive north of Coux-et-Bigaroque.
With a location up on a hillside between two rivers (the Dordogne itself and the Vézère), it's no surprise to hear that the views from this Périgord Noir site are pretty fabulous – as are the options for walks, outdoor activities and days out in the surrounding area.
Come along for a stay here and you should be able to squeeze the maximum amount of exploration/relaxation time out of your holiday – and that’s because you’ll be moving into a smart safari tent that's already set up ahead of your arrival. No setup needed here: each tent is kitted out with beds (with bed linen available to hire), a mini kitchen (with fridge, cooker, kettle and coffee maker) and both indoor and outdoor furniture so you can relax in comfort.
Couples and solo guests are very welcome here (as are dogs), but this is a site that's particularly well geared up for families – especially those with kids under 12. Kids’ club activities and canoe trips run during the high season, and there are plenty of facilities on site to keep them (and you) busy, including playgrounds, sports fields and a heated swimming pool with waterslides and paddling pool.
Having a shop on site means that self-catering should be straightforward – it's even got fresh bread for your breakfast and picnic sandwiches. There is, however, also a restaurant with a lovely terrace for those times when you don't fancy cooking.

Local attractions
In the Dordogne area, you do of course have to visit the Dordogne river, whether you're taking canoe trips, hiking/biking the riverside trail from Le Port (five minutes' drive) or settling in for sunbathing and paddles on the beach in Coux (five minutes). For more outdoorsy activity nearby, try the inflatable waterpark at Etangs du Bos (five minutes) or play a round at Golf de la Forge (10 minutes).
Heading further along the river, you may like to stop off in pretty Beynac (20 minutes), or the cliffside La Roque-Gageac (25 minutes), and/or take diversions to Château des Milandes and the The Marqueyssac gardens (both 20 minutes).
Going underground? There are a few excellent caves around – including Grottes de Maxange (15 minutes) and Grotte de Domme (half an hour) – and you can experience troglodyte houses in Belvès (15 minutes).
