  • Off-grid family bell tent glamping on a working Powys hill farm
  • Hafren Forest 25 minutes’ drive, Falconry Experience Wales a half hour
  • Dogs welcome; private showers; barbecues and firepits provided
Spectacular Powys views. Off-grid site with no wifi. Cattle and sheep grazing in surrounding fields. You must have arrived at Fan Hill Glamping, a hilltop spot in the small village of Y Fan, where pop-up accommodation is in bell tents on a 60-acre sheep and beef hill farm. The bell tents sleep four comfortably but can be reconfigured to sleep up to six guests (at an additional cost). Each comes with extra-high air beds plus private facilities like a gas-powered shower, eco-toilet and wash basin. Outside every tent is a picnic bench, barbecue and firepit, ready and waiting for you to sit out under the stars. If there are nights when you just don’t fancy cooking, however, there are several options in Llanidloes (five minutes’ drive), from takeaways to award-winning restaurants. If you’re not sure where to go, ask the site owners for their advice. Dogs are welcome but as this is a working farm, please keep them on leads while on site for the safety of the livestock. There are plenty of walks direct from the pitches for canine (and human, of course) exercise too – including the hill at the top of the farm for spectacular views over the valleys of Mid Wales. Also close by are opportunities for paddleboarding, fishing and wild swimming.
