A walker's pod
The pods for walkers
Pod with private parking

  • Family holiday park with spectacular Loch Lomond views at Ardlui
  • Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park access from the pitches
  • Bar, restaurant and entertainment throughout the year at Ardlui Hotel
Up at the northernmost tip of Loch Lomond, Ardlui Holiday Home Park is a small site with a range of accommodation, all overlooking the water. That’s right – the park has a fabulous location in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, making it easy for walkers, cyclists, photographers and wildlife watchers alike to get out on the hills directly from the pitches, or to get down to the loch for watersports and fishing. This site is also a handy overnighter for anyone ‘doing’ the West Highland Way, which runs along the east side of the loch between Fort William and Milngavie. The walking route is accessed via a ferry from Ardlui Marina, which is only five minutes’ walk away. Kids and dogs are welcome at this friendly site, and there are plenty of facilities to make life comfortable and convenient for all guests – you'll have the use of a launderette, a chemical disposal point and bathrooms with toilets and showers. The Ardlui Hotel is a few steps away too, serving homemade food in the cosy restaurant and a plethora of whiskies – just what you need as a pick-me-up after a day out in the bracing Scottish air – and beers in the welcoming pub. In the pub, you’re welcome to play pool, fire up the jukebox or warm up by the log stove in the winter. There are also lively entertainment nights throughout the year in the hotel.

Camping pod

Liked: Nothing really. The view. That's about it. Nowhere to walk from site. On a main road. Staff in pub where friendly

Disliked: Pod was very run down. Next to wardens shed an gas storage area. Photos don't show that. Decking collapsed under feet, rotten. Bed mattresses where flat as a pancake, basicallly slept on a plank of wood. Nowhere to complain to as warden was run off his feet. Toilets, shower dirty.
Hole in door. Door wouldn't lock.
The whole site was a dump. In need of a lot of maintenance.

Fully-serviced gravel and sand touring pitch

Liked: Toilet facilities and location.

Disliked: Paid £40 for one night fully operational pitch, turned up no warden available to help said on door available until 8pm this was 7 pm waited 15mins nothing.
So looked ourselves for so called pitch, they only have about 12 pitches but not clearly marked out nor do they have all the amenities. Parked up on what was available just electrical hook up no water available.
Has now been over an hour still no one available.
So decided to go into hotel for a bight to eat major mistake , mac n cheese was from a packet of craft with 8 over cooked chips £16.95 chilli con carne that looked like a ready meal £18.95 , it's the poor tourists that I feel it for because as you keep travelling about everyone's at it with the prices I know there's a cost of living just now but it doesn't justify some of the things out there ie for example stopped at the green welly for 2 can's of juice £5 ,person in front of me got 2 pies and 2 sausage rolls £16 unbelievable also noticed when leaving those horrible rollover hotdogs in a packet you get in some local shops £7 , thing is they don't have to charge these prices because the place was busy.
Anyway back to pitch, so basically paid £40 for about 30p of electricity and a sleep had to leave at 11am .badly run poorly marked out and over priced avoid if possible. Ps still no one available in the morning so you could in theory go in after 8 and leave before 11 because no one checks.

Fully-serviced gravel and sand touring pitch

Liked: The view

Disliked: It was very tatty and scruffy. Expected the toilets to be the same but they were surprisingly nice. Really needed an upgrade. Things were broken and the park up spots were where the carpark to the holiday place used to be and had been transfered over to campervan/motorhome park ups(that is what it felt like to me). Felt like we were on top of each other.(Parking spaces).
The reception smelt so bad and very dirty.

Local attractions

There’s a lot to get stuck into within Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park if you’re a keen hiker, climber or cyclist. If you’d rather take a scenic drive, the Rest and Be Thankful Viewpoint (half an hour’s drive) is a fine spot to pull over. There are also boat cruises on Loch Lomond (35 minutes) for explorations that don’t require much walking. Can’t relate? Don’t worry, just don a pair of hiking boots (or skis if it’s winter) and set about the Glencoe (40 minutes) slopes. Queen Elizabeth Forest Park (an hour) is also a handy spot for a good ramble or some biking. There’s also the stunning hike at Ben A'an (an hour and 10 minutes) for views over Loch Katrine and Loch Achray. Ben More (20 minutes) is a slightly more local spot, and a challenging climb if you really want to get the blood pumping. While you're here, you may fancy checking out some of the nearby castles. Dumbarton Castle (40 minutes) is a striking one set on a volcanic rock overlooking the sea. Inveraray Castle (50 minutes) on the shore of Loch Fyne is also spectacular, with huge gardens, a tearoom and castle room tours.
