You’ll be able to squeeze the maximum amount of sea air out of your Dorset coastal break when you stay at East Fleet Farm Touring Park – this spectacular location is on the shores of the Fleet Lagoon, with views over Chesil Beach to the open sea beyond. Having sea views from the site means that you may be tempted to hang around on your pitch, put your feet up and simply take in the scenery for much of your break. And that’s not a bad idea at all – pitches are generously sized, with access to a play area and playing field for kids that may need a bit more activity. The well-stocked shop has various camping/caravan accessories and consumables, and it’s also the place to pick up a newspaper and an ice cream to take back to your camping chair. For more substantial eats, head to the on-site bar, which has an extensive food menu as well as a range of local drinks. It really is worth making the effort to get out and about locally though: there are some stunning walks on the South West Coast Path (which passes next to the site) and plenty of places to go for a bike ride. Weymouth and Dorchester are easily accessed too, as are the watersports of Portland and attractions such as Abbotsbury Swannery.

Liked: Friendliness and efficiency of staff. Clean, well laid out pitches. Well maintained facilities and grounds. Toilets and shower blocks- fabulous, some of the best we have experienced at a campsite. We were given a huge level grass pitch for our camper van. Even the Wi-Fi was ok, better than most campsites. There was live entertainment every other night in the barn. We were only there for 3 nights and were pitched quite close, which was fine (noise wise). But we found the standard of the singers a little underwhelming.

Disliked: Prices in the pub on site quite high. All tables were extremely sticky from poor cleaning. (We only ate at a lunchtime).

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Very welcoming site. The site stewards are very friendly along with staff in the shop.

Lovely clean shower blocks. As there are 2 blocks together (and a third near the Barn) there are always toilets/showers available to use. The older block has small shower cubicles with a few family suites. The newer block contains rooms with a shower, toilet and sink (seems to be based on the family suites of the older block).

Great park on site, with a table tennis table.

I liked that we were told on arrival that the site doesn't allow loud noise between 11pm and 8am, and we were given a number to contact for any issues out of standard hours.

We rode our bikes into Weymouth, it took about 20 minutes for an adult and 10 year old, and about 40 minutes at a slow leisurely pace with a 6 year old.

We stayed during half term and there was entertainment on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. There's a restaurant/take-away, a reasonably priced shop with lots of camping essentials available and pizza cooked in the barn when the barn is open.

We only ate pizza from the site which I would recommend. Initially bought 2 for our son's hoping they'd leave enough for us but it was really nice so we bought a third pizza.

The site has direct access to the coastal path, ideal for walking. We were hoping to use a paddle board but the water was too shallow and the ground was squelchy and sucking our feet in (quite fun in itself but the paddle board stayed deflated).

Disliked: Internet signal was poor on our phones (EE) and the site WiFi wasn't good. Some people will prefer this but I was hoping to do some work while we were away.

There is a fair walk up the hill towards a bus stop. This was fine for us but some people scanning for negatives may like to be aware of this as a taxi may be more suitable.

Local attractions

Can’t keep your eyes off the sea views? Pick up the South West Coast Path at the bottom end of the park, or head for favourite spots along the Jurassic Coast like West Bay (half an hour’s drive) and Lulworth Cove (35 minutes). The Isle of Portland (15 minutes) is also a great place for a walk, and it’s also got lots of watersports including windsurfing, coasteering and scuba diving. Weymouth (10 minutes) is another perennial favourite for its lovely sandy beach and attractions like the Sea Life Centre and Pirate Adventure Golf. You can also get to the town on two wheels by picking up the Weymouth Trail cycle route from the bridleway by the site (or follow the full nine-mile trail up into the hills…) Other options for days out nearby include Abbotsbury Swannery and Subtropical Gardens (15 minutes), Vurlands Animal Farm (20 minutes) or an arty afternoon at Sculpture By The Lakes (half an hour).
