  • Small, friendly site on a farm at the edge of the Lake District
  • A 20-minute drive from Ulverston and Coniston Water
  • Dog-friendly and back to basics; barbecues welcome
Sturdy Bank is a small, friendly site on a farm in a quiet Cumbria location just on the edge of the Lake District National Park, five minutes’ drive from Broughton-in-Furness and Kirkby-in-Furness and 20 minutes from the market town of Ulverston. This laidback site is within easy reach of some of the Lake District’s top attractions: the nearest lake is Coniston Water, 20 minutes’ drive away, and it’ll take you less than half an hour to get to the Old Man of Coniston, Windermere and Beatrix Potter’s old stamping ground at Hill Top. And although the national park is worthy of many a visit, it’s also worth making time to head down to the coast, about 10 minutes away (the nature reserve at Sandscale Hawes is a particularly fine choice). This is a simple site with just basic facilities provided: it’s got a clean water supply and portable toilets that are cleaned regularly. You're welcome to set up barbecues for outdoor eats. Otherwise, Broughton-in-Furness has places to pick up food or settle in for meals and drinks, and there’s a more extensive choice over in Ulverston.

What customers say

Sturdy Bank is a simple campsite with grand views and a tranquil vibe. Guests love the clean loos, roomy pitches, and picking their own spot. The welcoming owners and farm animals add to the charm. While a bit basic for some, many enjoy the quiet, natural setting with pubs and walks nearby. Ideal for a laid-back, no-fuss break.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I liked everything about this site - lots of flat areas to camp, fabulous views, clean toilets, great location, and friendly owners. We had 2 nights here and was very chilled site where we could have firepit.
Apparently they are opening showers next season which will improve this site even further. Thanks
