What customers say

A peaceful, well-kept spot with spotless toilets. Lovely scenery, quiet vibes, and cows galore! Friendly owners. Great for a chill break, though showers & washing-up sinks are missing. Easy access to Kilburn village and its pub.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked I already had a good feeling about our booking from the friendly welcome messages of our host Carol, and then, on our arrival she kindly dropped by with her husband to check all was well as we were a little later than expected.

We were lucky enough to have the whole field to ourselves for the night. The site is really well maintained and the loos were a lovely surprise, being spotlessly clean, modern and inviting with ample loo-roll, hand soap, paper towels and even a mirror, so we felt rather spoilt for what was meant to be a semi-wild camp!

Our neighbours were a gorgeous herd of mummy cows and their calves, which was apt for a mother-daughter camping trip. And we enjoyed a superb sunset followed by a magical full moon rise from our tents. A trip to remember.

Church Farm Pitch Up is in a delightful location, sheltered, peaceful, brimming with wildlife, close to great walks and spectacular sights and we can’t wait to return!

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Great spot easy to find from the what 3 words. Friendly site with good views - visit from the owner too which is always nice. Really good toilet facilities they weren’t a wooden hut which is a treat on basic sites like these - spotless & fully stocked. Close walk to the village pub & even got to see a glider over us. Nice to see kids exploring in the neighbouring fields which you could safely monitor from this site.

Disliked Only downside (for us anyways) was that there was absolutely no phone signal could be a perk for others.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your great review and photos. Phone signals can be a problem in the countryside but hopefully the views and the loos make up for it.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked Lovely peaceful campsite. Two nights with my sons, just what we needed. Loads of space to play, beautiful views. Place to ourselves the first night.

Toilets were spotless, first thing my 8 year old commented on. No spiders or cobwebs as he put it.

Lovely local walks and pub

Local attractions

The North York Moors National Park is packed with great walking and bike trails to give you a taste of the scenery. Some of the top spots nearby include the ruins of Byland Abbey (five minutes’ drive) and Rievaulx Abbey (20 minutes), both particularly atmospheric early in the morning or at sunset. If a trip to the countryside isn't complete without seeing some animals, take the kids to Monk Park Farm (10 minutes), where they can bottle-feed lambs (in season), meet the goats and ride a miniature train. Alpaca walks are on the cards at Beacon Alpacas (10 minutes), or you could saddle up for a day on horseback at Bilsdale Riding Centre (25 minutes). For a different kind of animal encounter, head to Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre (25 minutes), stopping by in the town to explore The World of James Herriot museum too. Another town worth visiting is Helmsley (20 minutes), which has a castle and a walled garden.
