A five-minute drive from the East Yorkshire coastal resort of Withernsea, Little Otchan Glamping is just the place for a peaceful holiday – whether with your family or your significant other (and/or your dog, who is welcome here) – with a generous handful of perks. The site, easily accessed from the B1362, is part of a working farm and includes a large meadow and a secluded wooded area.
Days are spent at the beach in Withernsea, or hiking along the Spurn Heritage Coast (25 minutes’ drive), where a sandy peninsula on the estuary of the Humber is constantly being reshaped by the wind and the tides. As well as assorted birdlife, you might spot harbour porpoises here (in the summer, at least).
Other hiking destinations include the dog-friendly BBL Nature Reserve (35 minutes), an area of woodlands and wetlands on the outskirts of Hull. There are also a couple of golf courses within a 10-minute drive, and several fishing ponds. The site is a half-hour walk from the Great Newsome Brewery – run by Little Otchan’s owners, it’s a top spot to pick up a few ales in time for dinner…
Speaking of which, the communal kitchen is well equipped (think gas hobs, fridge freezer and toaster, plus crockery and cutlery), and you can sit around the large table (or by the woodburner, on colder nights) making new friends. The glamping field has a pizza oven and a firepit for post-dinner chats while looking up at the stars.

- The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
- No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.
- At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.
- Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.
- No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.
- No gas barbecues allowed.
- No electric barbecues allowed.
- Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Local attractions
Just south of Withernsea is RAF Holmpton (15 minutes’ drive), where a rather unassuming bungalow hides a vast underground bunker. Built in the 1950s, the facility was operational for more than 20 years; these days, volunteers are on hand to explain its role as an early warning station during the Cold War years.
In Hull (40 minutes), The Deep is a state-of-the-art aquarium at the confluence of the River Hull and the Humber estuary. From there, trace your way back up the river to the Hull & East Riding Museum, which displays Roman mosaics and the reconstruction of a mammoth, or visit the birthplace of anti-slavery campaigner William Wilberforce.
The market town of Beverley (50 minutes) is known for its Georgian townhouses and its Minster, which took more than two centuries to build and features three types of Gothic architecture. To the west of the town, Beverley Westwood is a vast area of parkland with a racecourse and a golf club.
