  • Well-maintained and gated park in a peaceful rural village
  • A 10-minute drive to Ely, 35 to Newmarket and 40 to Cambridge
  • Pub on site with trampoline; dog-walking track right across the road
Ease yourself into East Anglia by booking a pitch at Slade Paddock, a well-located and secure gated site in Witcham that is also part of a working farm. Splendid for ramblers and cyclists alike, there is a pub on site called The Humble Pig (open from Tuesday to Sunday) which has a lovely terrace to sit on and treat yourself to a drink. During high season, live music is held in the marquee on Saturday evenings, and on Friday and Saturday evenings, The Jolly Trotter food van provides delicious homemade food on site. This park is a prime spot for pet owners too, with a dog-walking track right across the road for guests bringing their four-legged pals along. History buffs are sorted here too thanks to a bus service that stops just off the local green and whisks you to the stately sights of Cambridge within an hour. Barbecues are allowed on the spacious open grounds too if you’re keen to rustle up alfresco food. Rather order local grub at a restaurant when evening rolls around? If you fancy dining out, eateries are a 15-minute drive away in Ely, which is also home to top local attractions like Oliver Cromwell’s House. Modern facilities at this Cambridgeshire park include four wetrooms with showers, two washing-up areas, and a toilet that's accessible for people with disabilities. Entertainment is scheduled throughout June, July and August.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Everything, Jane was really good on our arrival (i did forget her name so we had to nickname her blakey - as from on the buses because she always had a clipboard in her hand) Sorry jane.
big pitches with power and water close by. Had a nice walk to Ely - pavement all the way took about an hour and a half as there are no buses on sundays. Bar on site is well run and well worth a visit. Didn't have any food as it was still being set up.
Probably one of the best sites we've stayed on in England and will definitely return.

Liked: It was ok. Quiet

Disliked: Muddy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Considering you arrived late in the evening on the Saturday for your one night stay - our warden did have to go out that evening but did see you on arrival. Are you seriously saying our site was muddy - well yes indeed it was as we had 2 inches of rain in the weeks before - and October in the UK is often wet and muddy. If we had the power to control the weather it would make for a perfect camp site. As for the cleanliness of our facilities - you stated a 2 star, I can say that is an out and out lie. We work daily on our facilities and many people come back due to the cleanliness and presentation of our facilities. There may have been a little bit of grass walked into the facilities due to weather but the actual showers and toilets were spotless. You did state that the site was quiet - it was always going to be considering it was our last week of opening and our low season - The Humble Pig pub was open that evening and we did have people in for drinks and a chat. You would have been more than welcome but obviously chose to stay on your own in the quiet of your motorhome.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Quiet area. The lovely woman who initially was checking us in and also helped us with finding a shop. Clean, hot and large showers.

Disliked: The rude man that came over and interrupted the woman to tell us off for not adding that we were in a 6.6m bus to the booking (I did put the size on and he later admitted no one had even read the booking yet). We felt like we weren't wanted there and for £54 we'd rather have gone somewhere else but when my partner offered that the man quickly changed his tune and found us a spot.... He was apparently worried about his grass and shoved us in a bit of a weird place. When we woke on Saturday we found out why... the whole place was a bog! Luckily it dried out over Saturday afternoon and we were able to get out without getting stuck. Honestly not sure why he started off with a funny attitude? There are plenty of ways to have a conversation without being rude and it left us with a bad taste but we were very tired from travelling all week and just wanted a place to charge the van batteries and get some rest.

Also lots of the reviews mentioned a food truck and signs outside said food from 1pm but when I asked they said they don't have the food outside of high season. That makes sense of course but just something to keep in mind in the quieter season.

A site map via email would've been handy.

Local attractions

Ely (15 minutes’ drive) has endless activities to keep you entertained: head to this town to roam around the cracking cathedral and stained-glass museum before leaping onto a Liberty Belle Cruises boat at Ship Lane to bob along the Great Ouse river. Fancy a flutter? Newmarket (35 minutes) is known for being the birthplace of horse racing, so it’s a must-visit spot for equestrian types. Peer at the high-tech displays in Palace House’s National Horseracing Museum, timing your visit to the town just right to catch a fixture at the renowned racecourse afterwards. If you’re hot on history, you’ll want to amble around Anglesey Abbey (35 minutes) and admire the artworks before covering some of the 98 acres of grounds during a stroll. Wander to Wimpole Hall (40 minutes) later on, stopping to fawn over the farm animals that live here, then eye up the aviation displays – an old Concorde plane included – at the Imperial War Museum Duxford (40 minutes). Many of East Anglia’s other absorbing attractions are in Cambridge (40 minutes): think a series of stunning colleges, fab art galleries like the Fitzwilliam Museum and pleasant punting on the River Cam.
