Hardstanding touring pitch

  • Fully serviced pitches with access to paid fishing lakes
  • Around 30 minutes’ drive from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester
  • Café, wheelchair accessible facilities, parent and baby washroom
Would waking up and walking just a few feet for a spot of fishing be something of a holiday win for you? And how about finding that around 30 minutes by car from Warwick, Birmingham and Leicester? At Makins Lakes, in the village of Bramcote and 10 minutes’ drive from the Warwickshire town of Nuneaton, your pitch won’t just be close to a peaceful peg, you’ll also have a long list of Heart of England holiday highlights close by. Of course, the lakes on site aren’t just for the enjoyment of anglers. Being by the water brings a peaceful feel to all the pitches. There are views over the Warwickshire countryside too, but this isn’t a middle-of-nowhere kind of place. Each pitch is hooked up with electric and water access points. The shower and toilet block have accessible areas for disabled guests and there’s also a family-friendly parent and baby washroom. There’s an on-site café and bait shop and if you can’t bear to leave the lakeside, they’ll even deliver food out to you so you need not stop fishing all day. When you’re ready to rest your rod for a bit, it’s a 25-minute drive to catch a bit of culture in Coventry (UK City of Culture 2021) or 40 minutes to Stratford-upon-Avon, the must-see town for all things Shakespeare.

What customers say

Spacious, well-kept pitches and spotless facilities. Friendly staff, lovely lake views, and great value. A top spot for fishing with plenty of lakes for anglers. Minor motorway noise noted, but overwhelmingly positive with many keen to return.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely Park. Fishing 🎣 lake is a pleasant bonus area, you can sit & watch the anglers, which seems a very popular site.
Electric hookup
Showers

Disliked Not a dislike but a observation. The showers need an update ie shower 🚿 heads. Need a shelf or tray where you can place shampoo, soap etc rather than having to place on the shower tray.
Outside wash up area & counters are ok, but really need to clean all the dead insects around the ceiling & walls ☹️

Electric grass pitch

Liked We really liked the lakes & general look of the place. Staff all friendly & toilet blocks & wash area kept clean. On the Friday night, a member of staff was driving round to tell everyone about a little get together down at the cafe/bar with a stone-baked pizza stall there too. We popped down & really enjoyed it… the pizza was amazing! Used the cafe for lunch on the Saturday & the food was very reasonably priced! Checking in process really simple & if you have forgotten anything, there is a large selection of products available in the reception shop (e.g. food, drinks, medicine, toothpaste, cleaning products etc). A great place to go for our first ever time camping with the children & really good value for money. I’m not sure if they had WiFi in cafe but we naturally didn’t have any on the camping field so can’t rate that.

Disliked There wasn't much for young children to do. There are some football posts & a large field near the campsite to play on & I do appreciate this campsite is primarily for fishing weekends, but I think it would be improved that tiny bit more by having some swings/climbing frames etc. Is located next to a road so if you camp along the bushes you can hear cars going past throughout the night & can hear a dual carriageway that is nearby in the distance, so if you’re a light sleeper this may affect you. (It didn’t bother us or our small kids one bit but just worth a mention).

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Mel at the reception was brilliant, she was very helpful and offered options when the cafe was closed. Other staff members were helpful too.

Clean facilities and near to where we pitched our tent. Lots of room for kids to run around and play. Unfortunately we didn't get to use the games room but that was our call.

Disliked I think the cafe isn't open throughout the week but then staff are readily available to offer options as there are other cafes nearby.

Liked Quiet site, plenty of fishing lakes

Disliked Washing and toilet facilities weren’t the cleanest. Full of spider webs and spiders that had been there for some time.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We've stayed twice now, only for one night each time. The campsite it's self is a field so not much to say there, it's exactly as we expected it to be. The fishing lakes are great, we managed to catch on both visits. The shop is stocked with a hood variety of items, and great tackle shop.

Disliked Unfortunately I was less impressed with the toilet situation, if you go non electric you will have a bit of a walk to go to the toilet, which is a bit of annoying especially when you need to go early hours of the morning. There's 5/6 toilets in the ladies and some showers but that's it for the whole campsite. This last visit I wasn't too impressed with the state of them and lack of toilet roll. My partner too hasn't been too impressed with the mens toilets as only two toilets availed again for the whole campsite. Really do need another toilet block preferably in the non electric field.

Local attractions

If you’re in the mood for a quiet picnic or woodland stroll, Coombe Abbey Country Park (15 minutes’ drive) is a 500-acre parkland made for whiling away a day outdoors. There’s also a play area, zip lining and climbing forest if the family’s up for an active day. Or you could always try out the angling here too if your break really is all about fishing. Entertaining the kids shouldn’t be too tricky around these parts either. Immerse yourself fully in the medieval world of dungeons, knights and princesses, jousting and falconry with a visit to Warwick Castle (35 minutes). Or scream if you wanna go faster at Drayton Manor Theme Park, home to rollercoasters, Thomas Land and a 15-acre zoo. Animal antics of all kinds are also order of the day at Twycross Zoo (30 minutes).
