The word 'enoturismo' is always promising, giving you a hint that your stay will involve wine in some way. And that's certainly true at Enoturismo María Manuela, where you'll get to spend the night at a gorgeous Galicia spot between the forest and the vineyards. This fabulous little glamping site is, of course, part of a winery, so once you've gazed out over the rows of vines and taken a wander through the woods to soak up the forest sounds and scents, you’ll be able to have a tasting of the winery’s own María Manuela D.O. Rías Baixas single-vineyard Albariño alongside some well-matched local cheeses. Like the sounds of that? It gets even better when you hear that you'll be able to pick up a bottle to take back to your lodge for a relaxed evening on your terrace, listening to the sound of the birds or looking up to the stars while you bubble in the hot tub. It's all very lovely inside too, as these lodges all have comfy beds, a private bathroom and a cosy living space with a woodburning stove. You’ll also have a mini kitchen (with cooker, fridge and coffee maker) and air conditioning to keep things cool in summer. It may be the wine that initially caught your attention here, but there's much more to this location than just the vines. There are lots of great walks in the area, taking you to waterfalls and viewpoints, and the historic attractions of Santiago de Compostela are about 25 minutes' drive away.

Local attractions

Working up a thirst for a glass of wine at your lodge should be no problem here, as there are lots of walks to try out. Perhaps take a wander to the waterfalls at Cascada de Mince (10 minutes' drive), Fervenza do Inferniño (20 minutes) or Fervenza do Toxa (25 minutes), where a 70-metre waterfall thunders in a lush forest. For more of that scenery, visit Miradoiro de Gundian (10 minutes) for views of the soaring Paso da Cova cliffs or climb the 533-metre Pico Sacro (15 minutes). More easygoing is a stroll around the Illas de Gres (10 minutes), where five islands are connected by passageways, bridges and walkways through the cool forest. Add a taste of local history to your explorations with visits to Pazo de Oca (15 minutes), known as Galicia’s answer to Versailles or the Generalife, and Pazo de Santa Cruz de Ribadulla (15 minutes), a garden full of fabulous blooms. Santiago de Compostela (25 minutes) is a must too, with several museums as well as its famed religious and historic buildings.
