  • On the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park
  • Pétanque court, games room, summer restaurant and bar, kids' games
A site for British sorts – and for other holidaying types seeking pleasant stays in the north of France: Camping Caravanning St Louis is a green and peaceful site in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, in the municipality of Autingues. At a 25-minute drive from the Channel Tunnel and five minutes' drive from the A6 motorway, your holiday options are huge here – use the site as a stopover on your way south into France or north into Blighty, or stay put to explore these handsome surrounds. If you're sticking around for a bit, you may like to know taht the site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park for hikes and bike rides around its hills, countryside and marshland; it's also an easy couple of kilometres from Ardres with its lake and waterside leisure complex. This is a mightily well-maintained site, with excellent amenities including a renovated shower and toilet block hailed as spotless by gratified former guests. The friendly and helpful team also help to make this a popular place, as do the well-mown pitches, laidback vibe and room aplenty for smaller guests to run around. Summer is the liveliest time here, with an entertainment programme running in July and August, and a bar and restaurant open in the high season for convenient foodie times – and splendid views. A pétanque court, playground, games room and wifi zone are available at all times. Camping Caravanning St Louis is just over a kilometre or about 15 minutes' walk from Autingues and its shops and petrol station. Bread can be ordered on site from May to mid-September.

This well-kept, friendly campground is great for pre/post-ferry stopovers. Pitches are roomy & private. Toilets/showers are clean & modern. The on-site restaurant serves good, reasonably priced food. Staff are helpful & welcoming. Handy for Calais/Eurotunnel.

Power optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Excellent site for late arrivals and early departures as only 25 minutes from Le Shuttle but also just an all round really nice place to stop. Restaurant has very good food but does get very busy, probably related, so be prepared to wait and have another drink. Showers and toilets are good and very clean, with water points all round the site. Nice play area for kids and dog friendly. There's WiFi available but as I didn't use it so I can't comment how good it is but it's there. We stayed twice at the camping, start and end of our journey and enjoyed both nights and hopefully will return soon.

Power optional grass campsite

Gerne wieder!

Liked Close to Calais port

Disliked On arrival, I was told I had to pay a £300 deposit, which I wasn’t happy about, but paid. The caravan looked spacious at first glance, but when I opened the fridge door, a flood of water poured out. I went to reception to report it, and the response I got was, “Is there not a mop?” I said I didn’t know—I was just letting them know the fridge wasn’t working. He told me they’d look at it tomorrow. I asked for plenty of tissue to clean it up, which he gave me, and I ended up doing the job myself.

Later, we decided to try the on-site restaurant. My friend and I ordered fish and chips, while my son ordered a burger. When the food arrived, we both looked at each other in disbelief—the fish looked like frozen Aldi fish, and the chips weren’t much better. We ate it, but I was shocked that a restaurant would serve that to paying customers. My son bit into his burger and found it completely undercooked—bright red in the middle. We sent it back to be cooked properly.

We left feeling disappointed. Another member of our group later complained to the owner, but it didn’t go well. One of the owners' comments was, “You English are always concerned about E.coli.” . My friend felt so uncomfortable and threatened by the exchange that she had to leave. food preparation safety should be the upmost importance for a restaurant manager

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
The fridge and freezer had to cleaned before your arrival because the previous customers left it dirty. The point is that the freezer has to be turned of to be cleaned. Sorry for your bad experience about it.
The steak in the burger are served medium. It was too bloody for you, so we cooked it a second time. Our meat is french, local, and fresh and under vacuum. We are aware of the sanitary risks with minced meat, you can be sure when you come at our restaurant that we serve fresh meat.
You claimed after having eaten the fish and chips, that they were empty....I told you that you should have made the complain before you plate is empty. I think it fare.
In our general condition of sale on pitchup, (i can't add the picture in this answer), it is said that 300 euros deposit (pre-authorization) is going to be taken, and 50 euros (if you don't book the cleaning). Please read the condition of sale before booking an accommodation, it would probably avoid misunderstanding.
Kind regards.

2 bedroom mobile home

Liked A very peaceful site. My sons and I stayed in their static caravan which was very clean and well maintained. The restaurant was good too.

Disliked The games room was a little messy / dirty and could do with a bit of sprucing up.
Barrier into the park is locked at 10pm which is a little early - especially if you are going out for dinner.

Local attractions

The site is on the edge of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park, a popular local spot for walks and bike rides; more of the same, as well as wildlife watching in scenic surrounds, is at the Canche Bay Nature Reserve to the park's south. The medieval town of Ardres a few minutes' drive away is a must-see in this part of Pas-de-Calais – and a popular destination for holidaymakers on weekend breaks from Britain. Carve out time for the ancient and award-winning Thursday morning market, the bird sanctuary and the garden of the Maison de la Nature at the very least… and make it a mission to find the town bakery and patisserie too. From Ardres, follow the canal (starting from Calais harbour) along to Saint-Omer and the nearby World War II bunker Blockhaus of Éperlecques and its museum, or further along to Lille, an hour and 25 minutes' drive from the site.
