- Seafront Finistère site with views over the Iroise Sea
- Three sandy beaches nearby and access to the GR34 coastal path
- Guided hikes, theme nights, yoga and salsa classes in high season
Can't wait for the feel of sand between your toes? Coastal Brittany site Camping de Portez, five minutes' drive from Locmaria-Plouzané and 25 minutes from the port city of Brest, can take care of that for you. For not only does it have spectacular views of the Iroise Sea, it’s also within walking distance of not one… not two… but three sandy beaches (Trégana, Portez and Porsmilin, to be specific).
That splendid beachy location means watersports are a popular pick around here – windsurfing, sea kayaking, kitesurfing and sand yachting can all be had nearby. Novices can sign up for lessons at Porsmilin beach, a 10-minute walk away, for expert tips on surfing, bodyboarding and paddleboarding techniques. If you’d rather keep your feet on the ground, link up with the GR34 coastal path, which runs for 2,000 kilometres along the Breton coast. Get some serious hiking under your belt or just take a leisurely stroll, it’s your choice – endless sea views and gorgeous landscapes are a given either way…
A selection of restaurants is scattered along the seafront, within walking distance of the site, or you can tuck into a barbecue back at base. There’s also an entertainment room with TV and a playground on site to keep the youngsters amused. Yoga and salsa classes, themed nights and weekly hikes are also on offer through high season.
Facilities include free wifi, plus showers and a laundry room to spruce up those who've brought half the beach home with them.

Local attractions
For some time away from the sands, set forth for Saint-Mathieu lighthouse, a 15-minute drive away, or head to Fort de Bertheaume (also 15 minutes) for a culture kick with a difference – this historic fort doubles up as a leisure park with rock climbing, rope bridges and zip wires. Continue the fun at amusement park La Récré des 3 Curés (25 minutes), which has fairground rides, a paddling pool with slides, a lake with pedalos and a covered play area.
Appetite for more history? Point the car towards Château de Kergroadez (20 minutes) or to Brest (25 minutes), where there's a maritime museum located inside the town's old castle. If naval history's not your thing, aim instead for Océanopolis, a large aquarium that's home to around 10,000 sea-dwelling creatures (including 1,000 different species to spot).
Can't get enough of the coastline? This site is well placed for island hopping, with boat trips available nearby to the islands of Molène, Ouessant and Sein.
