Pub a few minutes' walk away

  • Quiet rural site in St Brides Major, 15 minutes' walk from the beach
  • A 15-min drive from surf lessons and other watersports in Porthcawl
  • Two pubs and a farm shop within easy walking distance
It’s all about simple seaside stays at Pool Farm, a friendly, quiet rural site in the village of St Brides Major and a 15-minute stroll from Southerndown beach. This is a splendid spot for a laidback break, especially for families with kids, with plenty of fresh-air antics available along this stunning stretch of the south Wales coast. A riding centre is within driving distance in Ogmore-by-Sea and there’s a golf course a few minutes' drive away (beware sea views distracting you from your swing), and the Wales Coast Path is around 15 - 20 minutes walk away for a bit of leg stretching. Plus, of course, those beaches – bask on the sands in Southerndown or take the 15-minute drive to Porthcawl for surf lessons, kiteboarding and other coastal adventures. The site itself has been left blissfully straightforward, the peaceful pitches served by just the basics (showers, toilets and a washing-up area). A fab little farm shop is a few minutes’ walk away for organic meat supplies and there are a couple of pubs within walking distance for pints and food.

What customers say

Pool Farm is a neat, friendly farm campsite, loved for its welcoming owners and spotless facilities. Visitors rave about the farm animals, nearby beaches, and handy pub next door. Features include a shared kitchen with a kettle and fridge. Some noted weak phone signal and Wi-Fi. Small upgrades like brighter toilet lights and better signs were suggested. Overall, a great, simple rural escape highly recommended.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely little location, pub, milk hut, beach and shop close by.
Toilet facilities clean and a box with a fridge, kettle and toaster. We met the owners and they were lush!

There is chickens and cows on site and my little one loved this.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite (no pets)

Liked The location

Disliked The campsite was overbooked on the bank holiday weekend for the number of facilities and size of field. There was no light switch in the toilets or showers so it was dark when you used them in the daytime. It was very cramped and cars were blocking each other in. Sadly we had a very inconsiderate drunk family next to us who played music until 11pm when our field was clearly full of young families. The field was next to a working farm so there were lots of flies everywhere. We won't be returning.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Whilst the stay was lovely it had a few flaws

Site was nice and clean

Disliked 1 toilet wouldn't flush

No security cameras to watch car park while my friends trailer got vandalised to a point it put my friends family at risk of a serious accident while travelling with kids.

1 shower amongst the site caused cues a Mile long causing delays to families

No warning when allowed to pick pitch of the cow or sheep pen which caused early morning wake ups

Floor was solid as a rock with stones which made it hard to pin tents down

More parking for site, not enough parking spots to accommodate for amount of pitches available.

Primitive grass and earth tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Lovely stay at Pool Farm for our very first camping trip!

Loved -
• Clean, spacious site
• Flushing toilet with soap and loo roll
• Friendly owners
• Pub over the road allowing dogs and great food
• Farm set up
• Fresh eggs for breakfast from the farm
• Cars were parked away from the pitch

Enjoyed so much that we stayed an extra night! Thank you.

Disliked • No signage to say where you were/weren’t supposed to be on the site (I know it’s a farm but it was a bit confusing as we had to walk through to get to our pitch and the children got way laid with the animals and wanted to see them)

Local attractions

Let’s start with those beaches… you can’t venture very far round these parts without stumbling upon one or the other. Southerndown beach (aka Dunraven Bay) is the closest, and a fab place for keen-eyed types to do a spot of fossil hunting or rockpooling. Ogmore-by-Sea and surfers' fave Rest Bay are other top picks nearby. Those who like their beach days served up with plenty of antics should head over to Porthcawl, 15 minutes away – here there’s a surf school, a kiteboarding centre and an activity centre that can fix up days of kayaking, canyoning and coasteering. Golfers can wield a club in Porthcawl or Southerndown, and riders can saddle up in Ogmore-by-Sea. If you fancy a break from the open air stuff, there’s a sizeable outlet shopping village 20 minutes’ drive from the site (also a fab place to pick up extra kit for your outdoorsy adventures).
