  • Rural site on a dairy farm 20 minutes' walk from Caernarfon
  • Half an hour from Snowdonia, Anglesey and the Llŷn Peninsula
  • Well-kept amenities including an accessible wetroom
Snowdonia National Park, Anglesey’s beaches, the lovely Llŷn Peninsula… if you fancy taking in lots of the local faves on your north-west Wales hols, take a look at handily placed Maes Carafanau Hendy Caravan Park. From this relaxed rural spot on a working dairy farm it’s around half an hour by car to all of the above, and a 20-minute stroll to historic Caernarfon, famed for its UNESCO-listed castle but also a popular place for poking about in the town’s independent shops and cafés. The Welsh Highland Railway and the Lôn Eifion cycle path pass by the site too, giving guests easy access to all sorts of ways to roam. Those in search of heaps of on-site activities will have to look elsewhere, as the Joneses have chosen to keep their place as peaceful as poss, focusing on doing the essential amenities to top standards. The large pitches have space to spread about a bit with access to electrical hookups and drinking water, and the top-notch bathroom facilities have hot showers, an accessible wetroom… and hairdryers for those days when the Welsh weather has messed with your mop.

What customers say

This peaceful, well-kept farm site boasts spacious, serviced spots and spotless facilities. Enjoy lovely rural views & a short walk to Caernarfon via a nice path. Minor farm smells/noise noted, but generally unobtrusive. WiFi can be spotty. Highly recommended, guests plan return trips.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Peace and quiet. The site is close to Caernarvon; twenty minutes safe walk along the cycle path or three minutes by car.
The shower and toilet facilities were outstanding, Always clean and the water was hot enough for a refreshing shower.
Seperate domestic washing machine and tumble dryer available for reasonable fees.
Food bags for waste food recycling and poo bags supplied for cleaning up after the dog.
Good recycling set up with seperate bins for glass, cans, paper, plastics, food and general waste.
Grounds were well kept. Each pitch had electric hook up and a tapbetween two pitches. Each pitch had a drain for grey waste water and an elsan point near the shower block so everything you could need for a great break.
The site is on a working farm so a few farm noises to be heard but not enough to ruin the peace and relaxation.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The site was really clean, massive pitches - ours was flat, and ideally placed for a 30 minute stroll into Caernarfon.
The stroll is next to the steam train line predominantly flat and brings you into the harbour by the castle.
The site has good access from main roads only the last 1/2 miles being a country road.
Facilities were good, warm showers, washing machine and dryer (honesty box).
We loved the fact at night it was quiet every night from 9! Just the odd sheep or cow to be heard. Working farm but there was never a point we felt it was too noisy.
We walked to Caernarfon to use a bus to Beddgelert and back (£13.20 for 2 return) and at bottom of road got the bus to a beach at Dinas Dinelle (£8 return). We didn’t have bikes plenty on site did and cycle ways at bottom of site access in either direction by steam train line. No play area for kids but large grassy area on one side of pitches. Seemed to be equal numbers of tourers and seasonal but all well kept. Great communication before we arrived from owners and pull up choose your pitch! Lovely views of the Snowdon range from site too.

Local attractions

Start by taking a stroll into Caernarfon to see the mighty waterfront castle, a huge and well-preserved place with lots to see and plenty of puzzles and activities for the tiddlers; it’s worth having a look around the Royal Welch Fusiliers Regimental Museum while you’re here too. The Welsh Highland Railway runs steam train rides from Caernarfon: grab a spot at the station to watch them depart or get all aboard for the 25-mile ride through the mountains to Porthmadog. If you prefer to travel under your own steam, there’s easy access to the scenic 12-mile Lôn Eifion cycle path, a hard-surfaced path that skirts the edge of Snowdonia for some great views and village visits. For days by the seaside, cross the Menai Suspension Bridge to Anglesey – there are some lovely beaches on the island (Traeth Cymyran, 40 minutes away, is perhaps the most popular) – and the excellent Anglesey Sea Zoo, home to a seahorse breeding programme and the Lobster Hatchery of Wales. Head south instead and it’s around a half-hour drive to Pwlheli on the Llŷn Peninsula, for more splendid beaches as well as wildlife-watching boat trips.
