  • Wild-style camping at a Perthshire wildlife centre
  • A 15-minute drive to Crieff, Drummond Castle and Loch Earn
  • Guest tickets for unlimited entry to the park, café and play area
Ever fancied bedding down among a menagerie of meerkats, lemurs, goats, pigs, donkeys and a whole lot of other entertaining animals? Well, here’s your chance at Auchingarrich Wildlife Park. Of course, you won’t be actually pitching up in the animal pens – there’s a lovely wild-camping-style paddock set aside for guests, with great views over the ponds and the surrounding Perthshire countryside. You will, however, be able to buy tickets giving you unlimited access to the main wildlife park during the day, so you can pop in and meet the animals whenever you wish, spend some time in the soft play barn or let off some steam at the outdoor play area, the mini golf or the ride-on tractors. The wildlife park has a café that’s open during the day for mains, snacks, hot drinks and sweet treats (along with a kids’ menu and ice creams too), but guests are also welcome to use the campsite’s barbecue area for outdoor meals. Comrie and Crieff are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for supplies if you’re self catering. There’s plenty of space at this site, so kids can run about and families can play games; dogs are welcome too, but will need to be kept under control and on a lead at all times. In keeping with the wild-style vibe you’ll have access to compost toilets but please note there are no showers. You can hire firepits if you’d like to have a campfire evening.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Camping was great, felt like was sleeping in with the animals because the campsite was close to the wildlife park! Loved hearing all the animal noises at night and in the morning. Was different from camping in a proper campsite! Staff were great and helpful! The wildlife park was great, loved seeing all the animals and some I hadn’t seen before. Will defo be back camping or just for a visit to the park 🙂

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay here! The owners were incredibly kind and accommodating, and the park itself was lovely! Animals to see and interact with at the organised times, and a lovely shop and cafe on site. We imagined it would be an incredible place to visit with children as there is lots to keep them entertained. Thank you!

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Fantastic weekend at Auchingarrich wildlife and adventure park. We all had a blast. Beautiful scenery, fantastic food and an incredible setting for families. We loved the after hours walks around the site seeing the animals especially great as its quieter for our sensory sensitive daughter. The staff couldn't be friendlier and were so welcoming. Everything about this place is perfection!! From the petting zoo, layout, food, staff, gift shop, dog friendly, campsite, firepits, playpark, indoor play barns. I really can't find a single negative! We are already planning our next trip and we have only been home an hour.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Great park/location for a short stay and a unique experience waking up to flamingos and lemur's saying hello. Camp site was okay and the options for extra although a tad pricey was great service as they bring it too you (Fire extras etc).
I loved the addition of the play areas for kids lots of options and is great for a break up between animal watching for little kids.

Disliked: Overall it was a tad pricey for what it was - food was expensive at the restaurant, the extras for camping were expensive we paid for firelighters a firepit and wood and it came out at nearly £20 for about 2/3 hours of fuel.
A Map would have been nice for the park in our welcome pack.

A few other issues that were admittedly outwith the staffs control but I feel could have been "handled" better....
The camp site needs some ground rules because unfortunately people don't respect shared spaces. The toilet was overflowing by the morning and people had starting pooing/weeing on or around the lid and outside the toilet it was disgusting. So maybe a secondary toilet and make it male and female or some rules for how to use the toilet. I also felt the toilet itself was extremely basic and could be updated easily (wood around the toilet was stained from urine and uncomfortable at best to sit on especially for females), holes through the shack people could see through and totally bug/midges infected which is fine for adults but I heard more than one child freaking out. I almost felt like the toilet was a false sense of security and would be better if we had none or brought our own solutions. We used the toilet once and then never again.
Noise/alcohol issues - it was extremely disappointing considering the sheer number of familys around to see people smoking, drinking and one family/tent decided to play club music on a speaker at full volume for approx 8 hours straight until 12am. Then they proceeded to shout laugh and talk after that for another couple hours. I understand this isn't the parks fault or responsibility but I feel more rules or reminders could be placed for no alcohol or smoking and no loud music etc. Me nor my family got a very good sleep and I felt like my experience was marred by inconsideration of others.

Lastly the electric broke while we were there in the cafe which meant breakfast wasn't available. Again I appreciate this was out of there control, however I feel like they should have shut the park down or tried a bit harder to fix it because we were relying on the cafe for breakfast in order to bring less with us and we had to leave the park much earlier than planned which felt like a waste. The issues happened the day before on the Saturday too which delayed our lunch so I feel there were potentially more options available sooner before the electrics went completely capoot.

Local attractions

Once you've met the animals on site, how about taking off to see some native wildlife? The big birds might be the main attraction at Argaty Red Kites (35 minutes’ drive), but you can also spot things like roe deer and red squirrels as well as seeing what you can see from the bird hides. Some time exploring the scenery should be on the cards too – perhaps a waterside stroll at Loch Earn (15 minutes’ drive, and also home to a good watersports centre), a woodland wander to reach Doune Castle (half an hour) or a steep climb up Callander Crags (45 minutes). Drummond Castle Gardens (15 minutes) is also a good spot for green-fingered types. If the kids are in the mood for more activity, take them along to Action Glen (15 minutes) for days of quad biking, segway riding and scrambling along treetop trails. And if you’ve not got the kids? Well, there’s always the Glenturret Distillery (15 minutes)…
