What customers say
Beautiful, peaceful, natural setting, often called "wild camping" with a warm atmosphere. Owners/staff praised for hospitality. Highlights: stunning scenery, lake walks, honesty shop. Minor points: need more toilets/showers, insects. Overall very positive, many want to return.

Lovely rural site with a warm welcome
Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite
Liked Great rural site. On the base of the hill, between pinetrees and wildlife. We had lots of spots to choose from, but because of the weight and size of the campervan we decided to not go up behind the hut. We were welcomed very warmly and got instructions to how to walk up to the lake best. We had a great, very peaceful stay and we can recommend this for everyone who loves staying in pure nature.

Liked The wildness of the site.
That it can hardly be called a 'site'...more a mountainside pitch with basic facilities should you want them down the hill.
The walk to the lake.
The people, both staff and campers.
The whole experience - just go there :)
Disliked Zilch (though see below, the loo and kitchen area could do with a good clean... even if you're living in the wilds clean facilities feel good!)

Excellent campsite, stunning views, friendly owner and staff...
Primitive grass and gravel RV campsite
Liked A fantastic and very affordable campsite. Excellent location, beautiful views, and clean air. We loved Crotty Lake, which is also steeped in history. Bernard, Joe, and their family were very friendly and welcoming. There were cooking facilities and a place to get coffee and tea. The bathrooms were clean, and I was surprised to find feminine hygiene products; not even the most expensive 5-star hotels in the world have them. Campfires are not allowed; I agree this is for safety and to protect nature and the environment. But the use of smokeless fuels, such as campfires, is permitted. We had a great time and will definitely return. I would recommend it to my friends. Thanks for everything, Bernard.

Liked Very unique campsite, lots of different beautiful and varied spaces to suit your needs. Ideal for hiking the Comeraghs but the awesome hospitality stood out. Lots of tips for the locality, and a fire pit with smokeless fuel (purchased on site). We had a lovely relaxed two nights camping.

Liked The place.
Disliked Who the hell had the idea of running a campsite and do not allow fires?? Camping with no fire?? That’s not camping. It’s a very nice place, but I wouldn’t go back again. Sorry, I understand their rules but don’t agree with them. If you really lime camping, enjoying a night camping, that’s not the place. Nice people running it, but sorry, no. When asked what was the reason for not allowing fires we had 3 different ones. So, it is unclear why, it seems just they don’t want.

From the manager: Dear Antonino,
We here at Crotty's Lake are disappointed you did not have the experience you hoped for at our place. Your co camper also expressed a similar view.
You state in your review that we do not allow small campfires, this is simply not the case. I am sure you noted our rules stating very clearly that smokeless fuels are allowed, before you booked. Perhaps you missed it, but then it was explained to you on the day several times that smokeless fuel was available but you choose the option not to use it. This was your choice of course and we respect that entirely.
Your point about the three different reasons for our campfire policy were also outlined to you very explicitly and easy to comprehend.
Thank you for your kind comments about the management and the place being nice. I hope on reflection that you understand our rules were in place before you booked and that safety and the environment are uppermost in our minds and everyone else's at all times.
