  • Small site on a quiet family-run farm 10 mins' drive from Malmesbury
  • On the edge of the Cotswolds, 45 minutes' drive from Bristol and Bath
  • Barbecues encouraged; firepits for hire; fresh lamb and beef for sale
Poke around the Cotswolds and wind down with a barbecue using produce fresh from the farm… peaceful and rural is the order of the day at Rouselands Farm Camping. At this site, you’ll be breezing into a site based on a family-run farm in Wiltshire, 10 minutes’ drive from Malmesbury and 25 minutes from Chippenham. This is a splendid place to come for a quiet break close to the Cotswolds – and there’s plenty of scope to get out for rural walks or bike rides on the local lanes, although you might mostly prefer to hang out on site and meet the animals or spend some time by the large fish pond. It’s quiet here, in a field adjacent to the farmhouse, but there’s still easy access from the road on a dedicated track. A short walk across the grass (100 metres or so) gets you to the shower block, which has two flushing toilets, washing-up facilities, laundry facilities for a small charge, and two hot, curtained showers. When you’re done exploring for the day, basking in a firepit is one way to unwind – they’re available to hire on site. Barbecues are also encouraged by the site. As this is a working farm, there’s no finer way to sort out dinner than to pick up the fresh lamb and beef produced on site – it’s available seasonally to cook or take home with you. Plus, plenty of other farms nearby sell fresh produce such as meat, eggs, milk and other bits – ask the site owners for tips on getting the best local grub.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked - The clean and very functional bathrooms with lovely hot showers which were available to access 24/7.
- The kitchen area with a kettle, microwave, fridge, plug sockets and washing up facilities again all available 24/7. There is also clothes washing facilities for a small charge, should you need them.
- The gorgeous up, close & personal opportunities with the very well looked after animals.
- Wonderfully large campsite which is managed very well so there’s no overbooking, everyone has plenty of space, along with bookable fire pits and available logs on site
- Very, very welcoming hosts. The hosts were so helpful and lovely, we simply couldn’t fault them. They went above and beyond to help us in anyway possible. They are a wonderful family, who all help out on the farm.
- Lots of ground to explore, and lots of different things to see nearby, we certainly weren’t short of things to do.

Disliked - Not a single thing to dislike about this lovely place, to say that we loved our stay here would be an understatement

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked The Kitchen/Shower / Toilet area was clean and well laid out.

Disliked The field had lots of hoof holes..(be careful not to sprain a ankle)

As a touring cyclist the nearest pub was a 10 Km round trip.

Primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked Great tent pitch. Just a soft, downy grass pitch with superb views of open countryside. The facilities are clean, and everything one could want; great kitchen and a fantastic shower. The steaks and sausages the farm sell are their own, and up the road, milk and fantastic Gloucester cheeses.
We will return.

The Old Hay Cart 1 bedroom shepherd's hut

Liked We stayed for 2 nights in the shepherds hut, we are used to camping but wanted something a little bit different for a couple of days to celebrate a birthday. On arrival the hut was clean and tidy and had everything you would need. The shower and toilet facilities were close by and were clean and replenished throughout our stay, there was a fridge/freezer for guests to use and washing up facilities, microwave and kettle, although we also had an induction hob and kettle in the hut. We were given a bag of firewood and there was enough in here to use for both nights of our stay. We loved how peaceful the location is and the hosts were available to help with any queries we had. Our children loved it and we will definitely be back in the future.

Disliked Nothing.

Local attractions

Since you’re so close to the Cotswolds here, mapping your way there might be one of the first things on your to-do list. And while it may be known for its characterful villages (Bibury, half an hour’s drive away, is one of these), there’s a beach too at Cotswold Water Park (20 minutes’ drive), making paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking easy to access, or there are giraffes, lions and other big animals to see at Cotswold Wildlife Park (45 minutes). When you’re craving the buzz that comes with the busier towns or cities, that’s no problem either. Just outside the Cotswolds, Cirencester (25 minutes) is particularly scenic. That's if you're not too busy browsing the town’s museum or making a splash in the open-air pool. Further afield, Bath (45 minutes) and Bristol (45 minutes) have their own spoonfuls of historical sites, shops and museums. For those days where you prefer to stick close to your nest, a trip to 12th-century Malmesbury Abbey (10 minutes) might do. Or, there’s all the artistic flair of the Elemental Sculpture Park (20 minutes) to take in and Westonbirt Arboretum’s treetop walkway and Gruffalo trail (25 minutes).
