  • Cosy, eco-friendly site within a half-hour’s drive of Bristol and Bath
  • Mendip Hills 10 minutes’ drive; 20 minutes to Wells; 30 to Glastonbury
  • Part of the Greener Camping scheme; communal barbecue on site
Bristol, Bath and beyond – there are so many places to explore within a half-hour drive of Cam Bridge Camping, a family-friendly site just off the A37, in Somerset. Easy to access (and with a reliable bus service stopping right outside) and blissfully peaceful, the site is also close to Mendip Hills National Landscape (10 minutes’ drive), an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty punctuated by rocky limestone slopes, flower-filled grasslands and bodies of water like the Chew Valley Lake. Owners Hector and Maggie live on site and are fully invested in improving the environment; so invested, in fact, that they are part of the Greener Camping programme, which means that a tree is planted for every person who signs up for membership to the scheme. The two-acre site feels remarkably intimate, and that cosy vibe might lead to making friends with your fellow guests – most likely at the communal barbecue area or by the campfire. Facilities include picnic tables, a washing-up area and a toilet block with a flushing toilet, composting toilet and a couple of hot-water showers. The nearest shops are at Hallatrow and Farrington Gurney (both five minutes, or a half-hour walk). If you want a night off from cooking duties, there is a pub serving food within a 10-minute walk, and a couple of takeaway restaurants in Temple Cloud (15 minutes’ walk).

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: Owner was really friendly.
Was quiet when we went and was a quiet and spacious campsite. Some traffic noise but it was ok.
Decent power shower and was nice and hot. Ability to charge items when needed too.
Great location for visiting Bath and Stonehenge and good advice given on the park and ride to avoid the clean air zones.
Pub 10 to 15 minutes walk which was very friendly and great food.
Hector was a great host. We purchased some wood for a camp fire and he also provided a great fire pit to use. Made the evenings very pleasant.
Good space in between pitches and level pitches.

Disliked: Nothing major. Quite a busy road to come out of in the car.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: A beautiful setting with a just as wonderful owner! Started off really well with a text to check in when we will be arriving and directions for if Hector wasn't available. Great spot with fab shower/toilet set up. Appreciated the little sitting area when it was tipping down as we only took our little tent. Good bbq and washing up areas.

Disliked: Nothing springs to mind, yes a little traffic noise but it didn't affect us in the least.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: First time camping and thoroughly enjoyed it. Location was perfect and the owner was really nice and friendly. Others on campsite were nice as well. Was all very quiet and peaceful. Otters in the local river were an amazing bonus!

Disliked: The toilet blocks weren’t great, but that’s what you get with camping. Unfortunately the lights stopped working so had to use the facilities in the dark/take our own torches

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked: Hector and the place itself was delightful.

Disliked: The traffic noise from main A road was constant and loud, especially early morning.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Jane

Completely understand about the road noise - I think overall people don't seem to mind as our woodland acts as a real buffer - but of course a real shame you won't return! Perhaps the other side of the site next time if you'd like to try again.:)

Thank you for the kind comments aside from the road - we're trying to build a really lovely escape from the City here and so far the feedback has been fantastic.

Best,

Hector.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: The campsite was fine for a short visit to Bath end Glastonbury. The sanitair was oké, but there was a very noisy road beside the campsite ( day end night noise) the owner was helpful and kind…. With a lot of plans for the future … there were hardly people so that felt not great …. Although theirs was a nice place made for barbecue etc…

Disliked: The road
Hardly other people
The difficult way to get in the park

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi there

Certainly a mixed review - but welcome the feedback.:)

I do remember we chatted at length about what our intimate site would benefit from/future plans etc. Certainly took on board everything we discussed. I would say that when you stayed, we'd only been open a couple of weeks, so we were indeed quiet! But as I sit here on the BH weekend, we're full, with lots of happy people, families, walkers, young couples - great mix of campers!

As I discussed with you, I plan to invest a lot of time and effort over the Winter to increase the facilities, going on the feedback from all our guests. Watch this spaces (website!).

Hopefully see you again and you see all the changes we've made!

Best,

Hector.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked: This was my first time camping trip with my 2 children aged 7 and 4 we all really enjoyed ourselves very much. Hector went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great, he even helped me set up the tent as I didn't know what I was doing really. The facilities on site are fantastic with electric showers, toilets and a nice hut to chill out if it gets too hot with mains power if you need to charge your phone. The campsite itself was beautiful and clean. If I ever go camping again I would definitely stay again.

Disliked: No negatives to be honest

Primitive grass and earth RV campsite

Liked: It was my first camping experience, only 15mins from where i live, beautiful surroundings,on a good bus route, owner very helpfull and polite, good place to have a Halloween party

Disliked: Not being able to play any music, understand respect for other campers, wasn't sure if you was allowed to put music on quietly in your own space

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So glad you enjoyed your stay - esp as it was your first time!

Of course playing quiet music isn't an issue - I think it's just a case of deciding when you're here - proximity to your fellow campers etc!

My little girl's birthday is on Halloween, so we're having her pals over to camp, so good idea on that front!

Hope to see you again in future.:)
