  • Small, peaceful and adults-only site in the Somerset countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to Burnham-on-Sea and Glastonbury
  • Within half an hour's drive of Wells and Cheddar; friendly site
Time for a little adults-only escape? Head off to The Hideout, which is set in peaceful Somerset surroundings but only 20 minutes' drive from Glastonbury Tor, 40 minutes from Bristol and within an hour of Exeter and Bath. The beaches of Burnham-on-Sea (20 minutes) and Weston-super-Mare (35 minutes) are close by for days out. Turn off the M5 at Junction 23 and drive five miles through wildlife-laden Somerset countryside to go underground at this quiet place. This is a small site, but with plenty of room for rest and relaxation, and so popular that you might want to keep it to yourself. Guests have access to a kettle and microwave, and when it’s time for washing up, the washing-up area is undercover. The other excellent amenities include separate ladies and gents’ blocks with an ensuite shower room in each, sockets for electric razors, drinking water and a chemical disposal point. There are also two separate toilets for guests' use. Please note that this is a relaxed peaceful site and so ball games are not allowed. The friendly The Hideout team can offer lots of advice and information on what to see and do when going off adventuring in these parts, with piles of coast, city and countryside pursuits set within an hour’s drive of the site at most.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (adults only)

Liked: Very friendly and Hospitable hosts, The shower and toilets are very clean and tidy and a homely feel.
Easy to get to and lots to do within a short car drive.
Some great pitches for tents and remarkably quiet and tranquil.
Will definitely stay again.

From the manager: Hi Warren,

Thank you for your review and overall 10/10.
It was a pleasure meeting and chatting to you.

As you are now aware, our pitch rate is based on 2 people as opposed to your booking, whereby you booked as a solo traveller. The price is quite different for someone booking a pitch for a single person.
I understand why you may have decided to mark us down on the one triangle for this.

We are an Adult only campsite and in this instance the marking down for child friendliness shouldn't come into the equation.

I hope your visit to meet friends at Frome went well and we look forward to seeing you again in 2025!

Warmest regards
Jackie:)

ALEX F. The reviewer booked through Pitchup.com

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite (adults only)

Liked: We liked everything on this site. The pitches were clean and of a decent size. Water was only a few steps away from each pitch. All of the grass was neatly cut and the cuttings removed - a nice change from most sites.
The washrooms and toilets were very clean with plenty of hot water. The pot wash areas (indoor and outdoor) were also clean. The laundry/freezer room was very useful - again, very clean and the washer & dryer are free! All of the facilities here are kept spotlessly clean. The site has WiFi - again, free.
The owners are very friendly and helpful - lovely people.

Disliked: The roads to and from this site could be a bit challenging to some people with a big van and little towing experience but it's not far from the main road so not a problem for most drivers.

Liked: The reception that Jackie and Glyn gave us upon arrival. Their explanation of where everything was around the site, and how to use everything was very good.
The site is immaculately kept, their attention to detail is spot on.
Nothing was too much trouble for them as a host, to ensure our stay was exactly what we wanted. I highly recommend staying here. We will visit again.

Local attractions

Wend your way to Wells (half an hour's drive), one of the smallest cities in England, and prepare plenty of time to wander around its cathedral, the first Gothic cathedral in England. History boffins should also make room for Bishops Palace next door and Vicars’ Close, the oldest residential street in Europe. Leave lots of time to get there: Glastonbury Abbey (20 minutes), Glastonbury Tor (20 minutes) and the village of Street (15 minutes), home of Clarks Shoes and Clarks Village, are all on the way. (More shopping, you say? Flash your cash at Cribbs Causeway at Bristol (55 minutes), Cabot Circus at Bristol and Bath (an hour and 10 minutes), and buy some tasty tidbits at nearby Cheddar (half an hour). There are several Somerset museums revolving around motors and transport, such as The Helicopter Museum (half an hour), the Haynes International Motor Museum (half an hour) and the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm Museum (half an hour). Much of the history of Somerset is covered at the Museum of Somerset (half an hour) and at Glastonbury’s Somerset Rural Life Museum (20 minutes), in a fourteenth century barn with exhibits on Somerset’s agricultural and social history (you might particularly like the three-seater toilet). Seaside days at Weston-super-Mare (35 minutes) and Burnham-on-Sea (25 minutes) are also within easy reach.
