  • Well-established Dorset park two miles from Blandford Forum
  • Kingston Lacy estate 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to the coast
  • Set within 14 acres of ancient parkland, with private walking trails
Seeking some proper peace and quiet for your Dorset break? Tuck yourselves away among 14 acres of ancient parkland at The Inside Park, a couple of miles outside Blandford Forum. The team here have been welcoming guests for more than 30 years, with many people becoming repeat visitors over that time. And what is it that keeps them coming back for more? Well, despite being so close to town (very handy when you want to pop out to the shops or find somewhere to eat out), this place has quite a magical secluded atmosphere. The pitches are about half a mile from the nearest road, and surrounded by a swathe of fine specimen trees that are home to lots of wildlife (deer, hawks and badgers are among the animals you might spot as you wander here). Getting out to explore your surroundings is easy here, as there are about six miles of private waymarked trails running through the farm’s land – excellent for walking the dogs or taking the kids out to spot some of the aforementioned wildlife. There are also woodland areas for the kids to play in, along with an outdoor play area and an indoor games room with table tennis, pool and other games. The owners of this site have clearly learned a thing or two about guests’ needs over the years they’ve been running the place, so now there’s a good list of facilities, mostly located within a characterful 18th-century stable and coach house – a launderette, food shop and modern accessible bathrooms among them. Spacious pitches on free-draining land round everything off nicely for a comfortable, chilled-out countryside break.

Liked: Location and environment are lovely and tranquil. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. Showers and toilet block were clean and hot water plentiful. Sites are generous and allow you to choose how you set up, with picnic tables available (first come first served). Great children’s play area if required, with access to wooded walks for all. Dogs allowed off the lead in the woods.

Disliked: Water pressure in shower is quite low, so you stand against the wall/pipes to shower (showers have a fixed head). Bathrooms are not heated and have doors at both ends so any wind whistles through when the doors are propped open! Mirrors are surprisingly low - even for average height people so you need to stoop to use them.
Phone signal on lower part of the site is weak at times so not great for Wi-Fi.
Worst of all (and no fault of the actual camp site but it is an issue) is the road to the campsite from Blandford Forum - tight turns with caravans and almost single track on the first part of Fair Mile Road when leaving Blandford Forum, which means that meeting oncoming traffic can be an issue and anything larger than a car will not get by unless you put the caravan/campervan in the hedge.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Lovely quiet site tucked out of the way, large pitch sizes and very accomodating staff.

Different pitch types for all requirements - close to the park for families, dog friendly pitches, out in the open or tucked out the way.

We purchased some logs onsite and enjoyed our firepit if an evening.

The children's play park kept our little one busy most of the day and we enjoyed sitting back and watching from the comfort of our camp chairs!

Liked: Loved the massive park! We were pitched next to it which the kids loved. Kids played even in the rain and they didn't want to leave at the end of our stay because they loved the park so much.

Loved all of the surrounding woodland (just wish the kids had allowed us to fully walk the route provided), meant you can hear all the wildlife at night. Our dog would have loved it if he had come too, an amazing site for dogs!

The games room was lots of fun when it rained; have to hire table tennis paddles and pool balls etc but meant it's all there and in full working order.

The bathroom and washing facilities were in good condition and clean. The taps and shower aren't button ones, so you don't have to keep turning the shower back on when in it.

I've marked WiFi as 3 stars because there wasn't any in the area we stayed BUT that wasn't a negative for me. I actually loved forgetting about my phone, didn't even think to check social media our whole stay and felt great for it. Loved that there wasn't easy Internet access.

The site is our perfect kind of site; away from main roads, feels like you are within nature (amongst all other campers), amazing play area and comfortable amenities. We will definitely visit again!

Disliked: The water pressure in the shower was weak, glad I didn't have to wash my hair but it was the only negative for this site for me and it's tiny because you're only in the shower for a few minutes each day. You're outside loving nature the rest of it.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: We really liked the site, friendly staff, good clean facilities with everything you need.

Disliked: The showers were disappointing, very little water pressure which meant you had to stay very close to the wall and drain hole and took ages to have a shower.

Liked: A truly beautiful and relaxing place for both children and the whole family. We’ve been to other places before, but this one is exceptionally peaceful and lovely. The kids have a dedicated play area in the park with a slide and other fun things… and if you have dogs, there’s plenty of space to walk them too.
Excellent — 1000 stars!🌟
Highly recommended!

Powered grass campsite

Liked: The campsite was brilliant, it was clean and tidy all around, staff were friendly, great amenities, pitch sizes were generous, picnic benches were a bonus, the park was fantastic (although the slide is a bit dangerous) and the games room was a hit with the children.

Disliked: There was nothing to dislike apart from the slide. My 10 year old fell forwards at the bottom and flew over the crash mat and badly scraped his face in the bark and lost a lense out of his glasses.

Local attractions

If you're popping into Blandford Forum (five minutes’ drive) for a bit of shopping, stick around to visit the Blandford Fashion Museum or take a tour of the Hall & Woodhouse Brewery. There’s also a leisure centre here with a pool, and you can head a little way out of town to the Royal Signals Museum (10 minutes). From this handy spot within the Dorset National Landscape, there are plenty of lovely walks and bike rides – plus more adventurous bike activities at Okeford Hill Bike Park (10 minutes). The spectacular Kingston Lacy estate (15 minutes), English Oak Vineyard (20 minutes) and Sculpture By The Lakes (25 minutes) give different ways to enjoy the scenery. And of course Dorset’s fabulous coastline isn’t far off either – drive for half an hour or so and you’ll be at Bournemouth’s splendid sandy beach or at the ancient coves of the Jurassic Coast.
