  • Quiet site in the Cornwall National Landscape, with stunning sea views
  • Direct access to the coast path; a half-hour walk to Gorran Haven
  • Café-bar, play area, shop and workspace on site; dogs welcome
What a stunning location. Treveague Campsite is a traditional, dog-friendly site so close to Cornwall’s Roseland Heritage Coast that it's got spectacular sea views on two sides (and therefore from many of the pitches). And it's also within the Cornwall National Landscape, so you can be sure that the local scenery is lovely from all angles. Stunning the views may be, but no doubt you won't be content just to look from afar – and neither will you have to, as there are several gorgeous beaches within walking distance (15-30 minutes) or within 10 minutes by car. You can also follow a footpath to the South West Coast Path or hire kayaks and paddleboards in nearby Gorran Haven (half an hour's walk away, and also home to a café and fish and chip shop). Pitches here are spacious (averaging around 95 square metres) and all on grass, with access to lots of handy facilities including a launderette, a play area, a motorhome service point, USB charging points, wifi, a dedicated workspace for the digital nomads, and a shop selling various essentials (including ice creams, pastries and cold beers). Both the bathrooms and the rest of the site are accessible for disabled guests. The site's café-bar serves top-notch food for reasonable prices; it does takeaway only, but you're welcome to eat it in the seating area along with a pint or a glass of wine. You’re also welcome to bring a barbecue for some alfresco cookery (off-ground barbecues only, thanks).

Route directions

What3words (front gate): index.dolls.steer. It's best to arrive after 12pm to manage traffic flow with guests departing the site. Please do not use Satnav devices to reach the site, especially if you are driving a motorhome or towing a caravan. If you do use a Satnav, the site recommends using the postcode for The Lost Gardens of Heligan (PL26 6EN). Then, use the following directions: From St Austell, take the B3273 towards Mevagissey. Do not go into Mevagissey because there are some very narrow lanes. Continue past Pentewan, which is well signposted, to the top of the hill and then turn right, where you should see a signpost for The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Stay on this road for approximately 10 minutes. Once you have passed Heligan, go through Gorran High Lanes and take the next right following the brown tourist signs for Treveague Farm and 'Sea View International Campsite' on the right-hand side. The road looks narrow but there are lots of large passing places. At the top of the hill, at the T-junction, turn left and then take the next right. Follow this lane until the road veers hard right. The site is on the left.

Local attractions

Treveague is near the spectacular Roseland peninsula, with beaches, child-safe bathing and hidden coves all around, as well as a good handful of historical houses, green gardens and quick access to the Eden Project, about 10 miles away. Go in one direction from Treveague Campsite to reach the family-friendly beach at Gorran Haven and the fish and chip shop, restaurant and pub at the village, and in the other for the rockpools of more secluded Hemmick beach and the long peaceful stretch and good fishing of the beach at Vault (the far end of Vault is naturist). As it’s the south coast, waters here are generally calm and not used for surfing, but sailing, fishing, boat hire and kayaking are available from Mevagissey. Further along the coastline, make time for another National Trust site, the tidal island of St Michael’s Mount just off the coast at Mount's Bay and one the county’s islands that can be walked to from the mainland at low tide: impress people with that factoid back home while you show them the pics.
