  • Family-run holiday park right by the beach in Hayle, with sea views
  • St Ives and St Michael’s Mount both within a 20-minute drive
  • Heated outdoor pool, games room and family restaurant/bar on site
Staying right by the beach in Cornwall… that’s something of a holiday dream, right? There’s a way to make it a reality, though – and that’s to pick a pitch at Beachside Holiday Park. As the name suggests, this family-friendly site is right next to the beach, tucked away among the sand dunes of St Ives Bay. It’s a lovely spot for family holidays on Hayle beach, and there’s a surf shop a couple of minutes’ walk away if you fancy learning the art of standing up on water. This park has been family run for more than 60 years, and over that time the owners have learnt a thing or two about what makes Cornwall holidays tick. It isn’t a place that relies purely on its stunning coastal location to attract guests – it’s also got a fine collection of facilities. These include a heated outdoor swimming pool (open May to September), an adventure playground, a games room and a fast wifi connection to help you plan days out/send pics to your jealous pals back home. There’s a food shop on site if you’d like to do self-catering suppers (and barbecues are allowed too). Otherwise, make for Coast restaurant/bar, which serves up a range of food and drinks throughout the day and has a glorious sea-view terrace. And if you like the sound of a relaxed alfresco pint or two, the Dune bar overlooks the beach (opening times vary seasonally).

Liked Pricing for a pitch with electricity was reasonable. With the price of the pitch, you had access to the heated pool (27 degrees constantly between the hours of 10&17:00hrs), a golden beach, onsite football pitches, ping pong tables and a small Arcade. Loads of things to do around the area. Sand dunes, Hayle town for convenience of shops etc and the site itself is located perfectly. Now more than 40 min drive to places such as lands end, Newquay, Mousehole and penzance. Plenty of stuff to do. You would need more than a weeks stay to achieve all the sites around the area.. weather permitting obviously.. which moves me onto the negatives..

Disliked The site itself is situated amongst the sand dunes and close to the sea front. During my stay, 5 out of the 6 days the wind and rain hammered my tent as the wind blissfully blew up the hillside and battered my poor 8 man tend. So much so it broke it causing my tent to leak. I had a medium quality tent I've never had a problem with wind till this holiday. Make sure you have extra pegs and strong ground ropes. Placing your car the side of the wind also helped redirect some of the wind.
Another note worth mentioning. There are only one toilet and shower block for the whole camp. Situated at the bottom next to the pool. Nightmare to walk if your located right up the top plots. Uphill walk with no lights can be a struggle for the less fitter camping folk (p.s i was naughty and drove down a few times lol).
Pool opening times were short as they needed to have a life guard present to keep it open. So if your out for the day and want to come home for a swim then if its past 17:00hrs it will be closed. Unsure if its open longer during the summer holidays.

Liked Our second time here and I can’t begin to highlight how lovely everyone is! After smashing my read window on my camper Dave went out his way to help me clean up the glass and patch me up! The site itself is clean, a walk from the beach and just perfect really for a relaxing time! (Sunday Carvery was banging too) thank you to all! We’ll be back!

FHU grass campsite (maximum 7 metres)

Liked Absolutely amazing location with close access to beautiful Hayle beach and SW Coast Path over the dunes. Peaceful site, good facilities, warm showers, friendly staff. Beachside cafe does great coffee.

Disliked Depending on wind direction, it can be very exposed and blustery (we struggled with our awning in high winds).

FHU grass campsite (maximum 7 metres)

Liked We really enjoyed everything about this campsite and were very happy with our stay. The café served delicious food, very quick service, and beautifully presented dishes on nice plates. All the facilities were convenient, including clean showers and toilets.

The location is absolutely amazing – right next to the ocean. It was something truly special!

Disliked There were many seagulls in the morning, which is natural for the seaside, but it didn’t affect our great experience at the campsite.

Liked Close to beach and outdoor swimming pool for the kids. Beautiful views, toilets, showers and washing areas kept clean. Loved on sight shop and little games room.

Disliked Walk to the toilets (they had portaloos closer by but often left unusable from other guests). Hike from beach however is completely doable! (With 3 children and youngest being 8months).

Liked Seaview and peaceful

Disliked Too far away from Toilets and Showers up a steep hill, need another block at the top of the hill. Waited nearly 1 hour for breakfast, they had staffing issues but never told us that when we ordered, waited till breakfast came out.

Local attractions

Hayle beach may be right on your doorstep for sandcastle building and surfing adventures, but there are other spectacular St Ives Bay beaches to try out too. Gwithian Towans (10 minutes’ drive) is another spot popular with surfers and kite surfers, while sheltered Carbis Bay (15 minutes) has calm waters suitable for swimmers and paddleboarders. If the kids ever tire of the sea and sand, Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary (10 minutes) should keep them enthralled with otter pups, chatty parrots and raptor displays. Helston Railway (20 minutes) fits the bill for quiet afternoons out, offering a short circular potter through pretty Cornish countryside on a steam train. For all things arty, head for the cute seaside town of St Ives (20 minutes) for ever-changing exhibitions of contemporary art at Tate St Ives and vast abstract sculptures at the Barbara Hepworth Museum. It’s an adventure all of its own getting to St Michael’s Mount (20 minutes) across the tidal causeway, but well worth it to admire the cliffside gardens and tour the castle full of historic bits and bobs like Napoleon’s coat.
