  • Lakeside site on the edge of the South Downs National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from central Winchester; 1.5 miles from Marwell Zoo
  • Fishing, archery, quad biking and other adventure sports
Zebras, tigers and bokibokies await in these handsome Hampshire surrounds – taking the kids to see Marwell Zoo's multitude of beasts is likely to make for some very happy hols indeed. Marwell Resort is within walking distance of this much-loved menagerie and is home to plenty of adventurous action in its own right – head here if you like the sound of oodles of outdoor activities in a pretty lakeside setting. The team at Marwell Resort have been instructing for more than 25 years, so they're well qualified to help you try out sports like archery, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. Please note that many of these activities have a minimum age restriction applied- please check directly with the site. The site lake has a total of nine swims available for anglers (mega-sized carp can be found in its waters, including whoppers weighing up to 45 pounds). Surrounded as it is by trees, it also looks pretty fine (especially at sundown) and is a popular spot with local wildlife. Marwell Resort has strong all-round facilities, including toilets, showers and wifi. There's also an on-site bistro restaurant that serves up nourishing meals seven days a week. You can set up a barbecue and cook your own grub, too (stock up on fresh meat and veg 15 minutes' drive away at Westlands Farm Shop).

Great for families with lots to do for kids and a friendly vibe. Clean facilities, helpful staff, and good food at the bar/restaurant. Some facilities could use updating and activities can be pricey, but most love it and would return.

Liked The wild meadows dog walk and the lakes.
Nice location.

Disliked Bar seemed to only be open odd hours. Staff weren’t the friendliest and they seemed very understaffed with one member doing multiple things.
Shop was very small and didn’t have a wide selection.
Place seemed very run down and outdated. It has such potential to be an amazing site but it just felt like a camp site where your school used to take you. The washing up facilities were good but the space had such potential such as having large freezers to store freezer bags, food etc. it could have done with a paint also to freshen it up. There were empty vending machines that they could have filled and space to add some cheap toy machines.
The ground was awful with random holes on the main pathway - our pitch had a massive hole in the middle which we all kept tripping on despite there being sand.
There should have been more signage for vehicles/ pedestrians as the cars sped through and drove too quickly. I’m aware it’s private land so there’s no requirement to have signs etc but other campsites have done and it makes such a difference. It would have felt safer having a proper crossing for pedestrians as the main track felt like a race course and an accident waiting to happen.
The site should also be signposted with a speed limit to ensure safety.
The showers were awful; only on for a few seconds before you had to push the button again. They weren’t the cleanest as I think the staff struggled to keep up with the footfall. The water pressure was also awful and came out as a drizzle. There were no family showering units which meant my husband wasn’t able to assist with the girls; not ideal if he was camping on his own with them.
The toilets themselves were tiny. Barely enough room to shut the door and I’m not the biggest person.
There was an old play castle near our pitch but was out of action and has been for a while which is a shame as it has such potential.
The children were happy and played well and spent a lot of time in the fields but would have been nice to have something a bit closer to the pitch for them to do.
Also there was no noise curfew which I’m fine with usually but when you have children running around and screaming at gone midnight it’s a bit annoying.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We’re really glad you enjoyed the natural surroundings of our site, especially the wild meadows, lakes, and open space for children to play—these are things we’re proud to offer our guests.

We’re sorry to hear that certain aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations, and we appreciate you sharing your feedback.

Just to clarify a few points you raised:

Speed and site safety: We do have speed limit signs displayed around the park and take safety very seriously. That said, we are reviewing whether additional signage or traffic calming measures might help further improve awareness.

Family bathroom: We do have a designated family bathroom located at the end of the main shower block next to the washing-up area. It offers ample space for parents assisting children, and we’re sorry if this wasn’t clearly signposted during your stay.

The “play castle”: The structure you referred to is actually a storage shed and is not intended for guest use. We’ll make sure its appearance doesn’t cause confusion moving forward.

Noise curfew: We operate a 10:30 PM quiet time policy, and our site warden carries out regular walkarounds to help enforce this. Every guest is also provided with the warden’s phone number so that any concerns after hours can be dealt with promptly. We’re sorry if your experience didn’t reflect that, and we would have appreciated the opportunity to help had we known at the time.

Facilities: We do understand that some of our facilities can feel dated and are actively making improvements. We're also reviewing vending and freezer availability, and appreciate your suggestions.

We’re continuously working on making the site more enjoyable and accessible for all our guests, and your feedback is very helpful in highlighting areas to improve.

Thanks again, and we hope to welcome you back in the future.

Liked Loved the fishing lake and the dog walking area which was awesome. The restaurant looked really nice although we didn’t attend as we were only on a short visit. The campsite was more for families and children, and as we were just two older adults camping it did get a bit overwhelming with the noise and the entertainment! (It was a bank holiday weekend!). The campsite itself however had a nice feel to it.

Liked Location, cleanliness, Coopers creek quality of food and setting. Friendliness of staff

Disliked Showers and basin taps. Ideally need changing to manual ratherthan push button.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind words—we’re really glad to hear you enjoyed the location, the cleanliness of the site, and your experience at Coopers Creek. We’ll be sure to pass on your compliments to the team there, as well as to our staff, who will be pleased to know they helped make your stay enjoyable.

We appreciate your feedback regarding the showers and basin taps. The push-button system is currently in place to help with water conservation, but we understand that manual taps are often preferred for ease of use. It's something we are reviewing as we continue to look for ways to improve our facilities.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave your feedback—we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Liked Generous size pitches, plenty of communal space, good facilities, excellent full English breakfast

Disliked Poor water pressure in showers

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely feedback—we're so pleased you enjoyed the generous pitch sizes, communal areas, and our facilities. It’s also great to hear you enjoyed the full English breakfast!

Regarding the water pressure in the showers, we completely understand how frustrating that can be. Unfortunately, the issue stems from an external supply problem with Southern Water, which is currently beyond our control. We are, however, in regular contact with them and continuing to push for improvements.

Thank you again for your review, and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Liked Large pitches plenty of space. The walks the lakes and bar and restaurant just a really chilled atmosphere. Clean and tidy site.

Disliked Not enough toilets for the amount of people on site. However the toilets they did have where very clean.

Local attractions

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest. The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes). The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
