Epping Forest – 6,000 acres of green trees, woodland trails and hidden wildlife havens. By any measure it's a rather good place to camp, and Debden House Campsite, right in the middle of it all, is a top spot for an alfresco getaway close to central London. If you're wanting to get into town, or are planning on coming here without a car, you can get to the London Underground in about half an hour's walk. But don't just head into the big city every day you're here, even if you're planning an urban-based break – the area has been described as a hidden gem by many guests due to its natural scenery, with all the wildlife of Epping Forest easily accessible on foot. This is a spacious spot, with 50 acres of land stretching over seven fields (four of which are suitable for fires). Debden House Campsite welcomes one-night stays, longer stints, youth groups and organised events. The facilities include a shower block, toilets, a utility room, a coin-operated laundry and a vending machine selling cold drinks; wood is also available to buy. As part of Debden House Campsite's commitment to the environment, guests are asked to make use of the recycling points dotted around the pitching fields. This is a very safe and laidback site, with an on-site security team on call overnight for added peace of mind.

Liked Close to London, clean and water at all fields

Disliked The worst thing is that you have to check out at 10 am sharp! So you have to stand up early and rap a wet tent, because there is no time to dry. The spaces are numbered and very close to each other. You can't choose where you want to stay, at check in they are giving you the number of your place. If you like another, you have to check if it is free with reception, so they can change it.
Staff was not friendly at all.
We will not going back there.

Disliked The noise all day and night until really late, music blaring through a speaker ! Beebee guns going off until late and then music started loud again at 9am!!
Not relaxing at all and when the security van was doing the rounds, they turned the music down and then as soon as he was out of sight they turned it up again

Liked camp fires and space for each tent

Disliked showers were broken and cold and not fixed during entire stay even though i complained, also charging for your car at 6 pound a night extra but only telling you once you arrive

Liked Love the size of the pitches, the space in between campers, the amount of fields 7!, the area around the campsite is beautiful. Everyone I met was a regular and experience campers which was great as this was my first time camping in 15 years.

Disliked No late check out unless you buy the day ticket. It would make sense to allow weekend campers leave 1/2 hours later on the Sunday if you're not open during the week. Be open more often! Maybe in non summer time do more of a boutique campsite! bell tent/canvas tent/4season tents only. Also promote that day ticket to Londoners needing outdoor spaces and bbqs!!

Liked We had a wonderful stay at this campsite. The surrounding area is absolutely beautiful, offering a sense of peace and tranquility that's hard to come by. One of the highlights was the easy and direct access to Epping Forest, which provided the perfect opportunity for long, scenic walks through nature. The forest trails were well-maintained and ideal for a relaxing stroll or a more adventurous hike. It’s an ideal spot for anyone looking to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty

Set off into the forest beloved by William Morris in search of wildlife, or scout out more manicured landscapes at one of the three top-rated golf clubs that can be reached within a 10-minute drive. For more outdoor activities, head north to the Lee Valley White Water Centre (15 minutes), or for an activity that doesn't require a set of dry clothes look at what's on just down the road at River Lee Country Park (20 minutes). For history, you're close to the Royal Gunpowder Mills (10 minutes), a great place for family outings where you can spend hours learning about gunpowder, explosives and rocket propellants. Other popular kid-pleasing options in the local area include Hertfordshire Zoo (half an hour), which is full of colourful creatures, and Canvey Island (50 minutes), where you can let the little ones run around on the sand. With the Central Line roughly a mile and a half away, it's also easy to get into the middle of London: St Paul's Cathedral can be driven to in about an hour, but it's quicker on the Tube, with journeys typically taking about 30 minutes once you've boarded a train.
