What customers say
This lovely site's praised for its beautiful riverside setting & peaceful vibe, with great views & trail access. Folks loved the spotless portaloos & the owner, Liz, who's a top host. Basic facilities (no showers) but excellent value. A few find facilities distant, some notice farm noise. Highly recommended for its nature & friendly feel.

Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked Very quiet campsite as we chose a field away from the main one and there was plenty of space even on Bank holiday weekend in good weather. Was excellent for a one night stay, lots of flat pitches. The host was really nice and guided us, giving us lots of freedom of choice.
Disliked Porta loo's weren't great although the lady does try her best to keep them clean. A shower block would be amazing. We ended up having a swim in Wast water after a sweaty hike which just about did the trick but with no pot washing facilities so I think multiple nights would have been difficult

From the manager: Sorry to read about the porta loos my Porta loo company let me down with an extra toilet I did my best to keep them clean on a busy hot bank holiday I take pride in my porta loos I’ve never had a negative comment in the six years I’ve been running my campsite I wished you had come over to see me
the spare field was busier then the main pitch up campsite
Sorry I couldn’t give you a 10/10 experience
Liz
Overall, it’s clean, peaceful, value for money/ great reality escape
Primitive grass tent campsite
Liked This campsite in our eyes was perfect it was great value your money. Although there are no showers and the only place to get signal is by the porter loos, when we needed directions to other towns but we couldn’t complain. It was peaceful, the porter loos were surprisingly amazingly clean and smelt nice for porter loos. The owners were warm, welcome, knowledge and chatty. No issues with the grass on campsite or access to the lake. It wasn’t busy and everyone was nicely spread out. You had a pub at the top of the road for drinks and food, a 10 minute drive to the local town for the shop or a 25 min drive for the spar or co up. Not to forget Wast Water was 26mins away! This is a must see. Liz will tell you what you can also do round the area.
Disliked No showers but if you like wild swimming or brave enough like us you can wash off or take a quick refreshing dip in the lake further up on the campsite or closer down on the main pitch. We preferred further up as it was peaceful. We did have to pick up dog muck but I guess these are the people with dogs fault really not the hosts. We could hear music at 2 in the morning but I think it came from the pitch further up but we quickly went back asleep.
