Our pitch
Pool bridge farm, wild swimming for adults and children a 20 minute drive from site
Dreamers gardens. a ten minute walk from the site through the woods

  • Peaceful dog-friendly site surrounded by the Yorkshire countryside
  • A 20-minute drive to York, the Yorkshire Wolds Way and Castle Howard
  • Walk to the Northwood Trail, a café and restaurant; farm shop nearby
A chilled drink in hand, the Yorkshire Wolds on the horizon and a belly full of fresh farm food grilled on your barbecue… that’s one way to spend an afternoon at Beech Farm. Other ways include hiking out into the Yorkshire Wolds (the site is around 20 minutes’ drive from the Yorkshire Wolds Way for long-distance hikes) or setting about exploring the immediate countryside. A 20-minute drive from York, this is a peaceful escape for any city dwellers… or indeed, a wise spot for those looking to check out its chocolate-making history, historic minster and Shambles shopping street from a base that’s in the countryside. The gorgeous site is half a mile back from a main road and has views across the fields, woods and the distant Yorkshire Wolds. The site is simply a beautiful field with a rustic toilet, shower and wash-up block, so it’s just the place for those seeking a back to basics break and lots of peace and quiet. Handily, dogs are very much welcome too. Yorkshire strolls might be next up. If so, the three-mile Northwood Trail is just 15 minutes’ walk from the site too. On the trail, there’s a restaurant, café and a simple playground. If you’re after more tasty things to eat (or to take back for a barbecue), there’s a farm shop and café five minutes’ drive away (or a 45-minute walk away), as well as a cluster of pubs in Stamford Bridge (five minutes’ drive or 45 minutes’ walk).

Primitive grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Great location awsy ftom main roads and really good views. Pitches are flat and well maintained. Good facilities with nice hot showers.

Disliked: The hardcore track into the field is difficult to drive over safely on a motorbike. They let me use an alternative gate so i could park on my pitch.

Primitive grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The quietness, the goats were funny as they kept making noises which the ducks then responded to. The toilets were clean and there was a kettle so we didn't have to wait for ours to boil. Easy to find and a nice place.

Disliked: We weren't sure if there were any walks nearby, maybe some suggestions would be nice?

Primitive grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Showers, views and facilities were all perfect. The owner came and chatted with us asked how everything was going. Was nice to see that they care about their campers. The dog really enjoyed it here also. He’s an obedient dog and they was fine with him being of his lead which was brilliant also.

Primitive grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Lovely open field

Disliked: We was there for 3 nights and while we was the toilets never got cleaned from previous quests and while we was staying on the site. The wash area was very dusty and that was never cleaned either. No hot water to wash pots so had to boil the kettle and we had to have a cold shower

From the manager: Hi Lindsay,
I’m sorry you weren’t happy with your stay.
The toilets were cleaned 3 times a day. If someone made a mess in between those times it simply can’t be helped. Unfortunately we did have some guests over the weekend who had very little respect for the place and there was more of a mess for us to clean when we did come.
It seems strange you didn’t mention the hot water- if it wasn’t working why not ask us to fix it? No one else mentioned it either so I’m not sure on that one.
I saw your children playing it looked like they were having a lovely time, I hope you did too

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The location was perfect, parked up in a field at the back of a farm with lovely views. The toilets and washing facilities were simple little log cabin style, but just what is needed. Also had a kettle supplied which was a great bonus. Plenty of level space for camper vans.

Primitive grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Beautiful, calm, picturesque setting on a working farm with intriguing forest walks nearby. Lovely Stamford Bridge with historical connections and plentiful eateries was a short drive away. The pitches were flat and well-drained, the grass in excellent condition and the amenities block was tidy and clean with plentiful hot water. The owners were approachable and helpful but not at all intrusive.

Primitive grass tent, travel trailer or trailer tent campsite

Liked: The views are spectacular! Loved the animals wishing us a “good morning” the shower and toilets were great. My son loved running around the camping field, watching the farm equipment and our walks in the woods. Lots of things to do close by like The Ballon Tree farm shop (great for little ones- short drive) and the enchanted forest walk (also great for kids and you can get a beer / hot drink / snack within walking distance)

Disliked: Nothing

Primitive cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: The setting was lovely as first drive up to the site

Disliked: Everything advertised in the pictures was not as close as it was made out In the pictures, the pitch was just a field and everything in walking distance was 45minutes away! We ended up booking another campsite within an hour of our arrival and left beech farm, I’m so glad we did as the other site( we stay at regularly) was so much better

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback and I’m sorry the site was a disappointment to you. Pitchup ask their advertisers to post pictures of lovely things to do nearby, but I’m not sure what made you think they were onsite, pictures of a nearby lake for example don’t have our campsite in the forefront, it’s all in the description. Yes Stamford bridge is about a half an hour walk, but I don’t think we should be marked as a 2/10 for that, rather you should have put our postcode into your map app and calculated the walking distance to Stamford. It’s only a 5 minute drive. We don’t advertise that we are anything more than a field with great views and clean but rustic facilities with Stamford bridge a couple of miles away, so being given a bad review for being exactly as described is quite frustrating

Local attractions

Soaking in some of Yorkshire’s history should be no hard feat around here. Start with the rural side of Yorkshire at Murton Park (10 minutes’ drive), which is a farming museum with 14 acres of playgrounds, animals and historic areas all about Yorkshire farms in the present and past. Castle Howard (20 minutes) is a similar spot with a historic house and estate, playground and walks where the fashionable Howard family have strolled for 300 years or so. Keep up your history-themed tour with a visit to the National Railway Museum York (half an hour) or welcome a bit of wildlife art into your itinerary with a look around the Robert Fuller Gallery Ltd (20 minutes) - and see what inspiration strikes for when you’re relaxing around the green spaces at Beech Farm. Any folk who have come prepared with all their hiking gear and who are itching to get going will get in a good, long hike around the Yorkshire Wolds Way (around 20 minutes), a Wolds trail totalling 79 miles. Failing that, the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (25 minutes) has a gorgeous set of trails.
