  • Well maintained peaceful park
  • Playdale Farm Park 10 minutes’ drive; Scarborough 20 minutes
  • Play area, games room and indoor pool; restaurant and bar; launderette
Whether you’re after a hiking holiday, a spot of birdwatching or bracing good times at the seaside, coastal North Yorkshire always delivers. And at Spring Willows Caravan Park, you’re well placed for all these activities – and more besides. This family- and dog-friendly site sits close to the junction of the A64, which takes you straight into Scarborough (20 minutes’ drive), and the A1039, which you can follow all the way to Filey (15 minutes). From there, you can choose to spend a day at sandy, expansive Filey Beach, or head to Filey Brigg, a narrow, ragged promontory where there are reliable sightings of migratory and breeding birds. So that’s the beaches and birdwatching taken care of. As for the hiking, Filey Brigg marks the end (or the start) of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, a long-distance route crossing spectacular valleys, woodland and chalk hills. On site, grass pitches come with splendid views of the surrounding fields, and facilities include an indoor pool, a gym, a games room and a fenced-off children’s play area with climbing structures. If you’re into experimenting with your G&Ts, the S Club Bar and Restaurant has a pretty decent selection of gins. (How decent? Well, you might find it hard to work your way through the entire menu during your stay here…) If you fancy sipping your drink under a canopy of stars, the outdoor seating area has heat lamps and warm throws. A modern and pristine toilet block with hot-water showers (plus facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette complete the picture.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked It’s a gorgeous campsite, the dog walking area up the hill is stunning. Location was good - close to many sea side places and my favourite Filey.
Loads of bathrooms and dog friendly restaurant.

Disliked Would like some light at night around toilet block, so it’s easier to spot - my daughters were a bit worried that they couldn’t see it - rain didn’t help with that.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Amazing views, good dog walks and close to beach and restaurants

Disliked Very difficult to get pegs in the floor, no warning that it was on top of a quarry, needed heavy duty pegs as bent nearly all of ours. Toilet doors stick and temper metal showers. Next to main road so quite loud with traffic. Play part desperately needs fixing.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked We loved our stay, it has good facilities and really handy having a washer and drier that don’t bankrupt you for doing a wash load. Staff on site are all really friendly and welcoming. Liked having the bar and entertainment, never been to a camping site which has had this before and the kids enjoyed the games room.

Disliked Could do with a few more toilet/showers.

Liked A great stay! Fab location.
Staff friendly and food in pub really good quality and reasonable prices. Pool and games area were a hit with the children.
Camp site had everything we needed and more.

Disliked Park needs a little TLC but still enough to keep the children occupied.

Powered grass tent campsite

Liked The staff are all very friendly, toilets are kept clean, plenty to do with walks, small park and swimming pool
Bar and restaurant are worth a visit, good portion sizes for the price.
Fish and chip shop in walking distance and another pub short drive up the road.

Disliked Our pitch had big ditch in it meaning we had to set up our tent differently meaning our opening was right on the dirt road running next to the pitches, toilets could do with a mop left in as the its showers and toilets in one

Liked Great caravan site in a lovely location. Fantastic views and a cracking dog walk area.

Disliked The pitches are not level and we found it impossible to level the caravan (be prepared with lots of chocks and levelling blocks)

Liked Great location.
Made to feel very welcome by the lady on reception who gave us plenty of info for our stay. Then someone escorted us to our pitch.
Facilities are ok. Kettle and microwave with couple of wash sinks which are cleaned twice daily.
Toilets are clean majority of the time but not enough of them.
Popped in the bar for few drinks over the 2 days we spent there. Reasonably priced and quite good facilities with a play park just outside and games room.
We decided to walk to the Foxhound pub in the next village over. Great pub with really nice meals.
Plenty of pitch space but the whole site is on a slope and the ground is extremely hard. Make sure u have hard ground pegs.
Never used the pool but was advised how to book and opening times etc.

Disliked Toilets consist of 4 toilet and shower rooms with 4 portaloos. Near enough a constant queue to use these as everyone rightly would rather use a proper flushing toilet.
Ground is very hard and sloped

Local attractions

Build a day out around the kids by taking them to Playdale Farm Park (10 minutes’ drive), where they can feed alpacas, handle guinea pigs or have a go at ziplining. Then head to the North Yorkshire Water Park (15 minutes), for climbing, bouncing and sliding on the inflatable adventure course. With its chequered floor and elegant colonnade framing views of the sea, the Sun Court at the Scarborough Spa (20 minutes) is a great spot for a drink, maybe accompanied by music from a live orchestra. A stroll along South Bay Beach takes you to a pretty marina lined with restaurants and the Luna Park theme park. A chalk outcrop jutting into the North Sea, Flamborough Outer Headlands Nature Reserve (half an hour) is a popular spot for birdwatching. The coastline around here is pretty spectacular, with tall cliffs and rock formations like the Drinking Dinosaur, where seals come for a rest.
