  • Family- and dog-friendly site in Kirkby Malzeard, six miles from Ripon
  • Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales National Park within a half-hour drive
  • Mobile hot tub (for an additional fee) and guest kitchen; café on site
If your idea of a top-notch rural break is one that’s packed with scenic strolls and/or bike rides, you should be in good hands at Ivy Bank Campsite. This spacious, family- and dog-friendly site is on the edge of the village of Kirkby Malzeard and surrounded by the Nidderdale National Landscape, with the Yorkshire Dales National Park not far beyond. There are heaps of places to get out for a day of hiking or cycling: Brimham Rocks, Fountains Abbey and Newby Hall are all within a half-hour drive, and the site owners are happy to pass on tips for local jaunts too. Take urban wanders around Ripon (15 minutes’ drive away) and Harrogate (25 minutes), or trade all the rural peace for thrills at Lightwater Valley Theme Park, 15 minutes away, too. There’s plenty of space for post-activity chilling out on site, with the on-site café dishing out fresh coffee and croissants, hot and cold sandwiches and sweet treats like cakes, brownies and scones (you're also welcome to stay parked after your check-out to use the café). Unwind at the mobile hot tub (extra fee applies) too, or head to the play area that's a two-minute walk away from the site. If you'd like to cook for yourself, there's a small kitchen area housed in a converted horsebox with a sink, toaster, kettle and microwave, as well as a book exchange and plugs to charge devices. Other handy bits and bobs around the place include a shower block and recycling facilities. Firepits are available to rent for warming up of an evening; if you’d prefer to cosy up in the pub, it’s a mere five-minute amble to the local tavern for a pint or plate of grub. Also in the village are a chip shop and a butcher to supply the bits for your barbecue.

What customers say

Friendly, well-kept campground with spacious sites & chill vibes. Praised for clean, warm washrooms, cafe, and quiet, scenic rural setting. Guests loved picking their own spots and the staff's helpfulness. Minor points: occasional animal/neighbour noise, a few facility tweaks needed (shower hooks, privacy). Highly recommended for a return trip.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Very good facilities, including toilets, kitchen, washing areas. There was also a cafe, although we didn't use it. Nice big area to pitch up and a nice relaxed vibe. Great views and a lovely stay.

Disliked The access was very bumpy and rutted.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks Jason, we have done a temporary repair on the driveway but have to wait till low season where there’s less traffic to let the gravel settle

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely little site, only stayed one night, nice clean toilets & good showers, onsite cafe wasn't open in the afternoon on arrival, but was open in the morning, but didn't use so can't comment.
Local pub was ok with good food at reasonable prices, 5 minutes walk away.

Disliked Bit pricey at £28 for a none electric grass pitch mid week in Oct.
Not very level for tent camping, the field does have a slight slope.

Powered grass campsite

Liked Quiet and lovely views. Sweet cafe reasonably priced. Hot showers and dishwasher area hot water.

Disliked Field not very level and the grass was very lumpy. For me it seemed a little bit unkempt but I can see it would appeal so some.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you - it’s difficult the keep the grass like a bowling green in winter…. Elements like rain and wind add certain difficulties.

Plenty of level spaces it’s a campsite not a car park

Powered grass campsite

Liked The staff were so friendly and so helpful, it felt like they couldn't do enough for us. They were always up for chatting and giving advice when asked.
We had the breakfasts one morning and they were gorgeous - highly recommended, perfect after a night camping. The hot chocolates were an unexpected but very welcome addition to our trip.

The bathrooms and kitchen were lovely and warm, and the owner was kind enough to let us dry our wet things in there after a storm. Everything was kept clean and in good working order. The toilets are close by no matter where you're camped.

One night we rented a firepit and bought some wood and firelighters to get it going. The staff were so helpful and flexible and they had everything in the shop we could have needed for our campfire! If I hadn't been pregnant we definitely would have rented one of the hot tubs, everything was so reasonably priced.

The views were beautiful, there was tons to do in the area. We couldn't have asked for more.

Liked Beautiful location, friendly staff and good facilities. We would liked to have had breakfast in the onsite cafe but we were in a rush, which was a shame because it was definitely somewhere to stop and relax.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Ivy Bank Campsite is a great little campsite tucked away down a quiet lane in beautiful countryside. Although I arrived late evening due to hold ups on the road, I was greeted promptly and booked in to the site. There is a fantastic shower and toilet block, very modern and well fitted out - beer keg urinals in the men’s washroom were great! Lovely warm showers too. Dish washing area conveniently located at front of toilet block which also has a cafe, which looked great although I didn’t have a chance to sample unfortunately as I was on a quick overnight stay.
